Sporting Activities That You Can Find And Do In Hong Kong

Always bored in Hong Kong? Got nothing to do? Well, that's what I'm here to talk about. I will be finding all those activities that you could be doing in Hong Kong out of all those crooks and nannies in Kowloon, Hong Kong Island and New Territories.

I will be providing links to places and websites hosting these activities so that anyone, yes, even you won't be bored this summer.

Another Summer

What to do in Hong Kong

It's yet another summer, another one of those periods when theres nothing to do. Despite the obvious freedom that your supposed to be entitled to after yet another difficult academic year we often find ourselves trapped in between 4 walls that we call our homes. Going out every single day with your friends too get boring as you soon find you've been to every single place and have exhausted all the malls and shopping centers you can possibly go to.

MAN, this isn't the type of summer that I planned to have when I was dragging myself through that last term of school. I seriously have to gather myself together and find some fun activities to do. Going through the search engines and asking my friends of new activities to do I eventually stumbled onto the website HK Activity which has a comprehensive list of activites you can do in Hong Kong.

Whats more special about HK Activity is that the activities are separated into 3 funky streams, also known as Creativity, Action and Service. Each of these activities are represented by cute icons which depict the activity clearly.

From the few times I have visited it, the site has been going through dramatic changes for the good. Recently a map as cool as Ironman was added, precisely showing where the activities are located can also be seen.

To sum this up, you can find activities at HK Activity, this is a great concise website and I advise all of you to go and check this out!

Next season's Arsenal lineup?

Who's going and who's staying?

With the transfer season every year, stories of players and their discontent at their teammates, clubs and their managers or even the noise level of the city they are currently residing in for some of the country boys. *cough* Hleb *cough*

This transfer season seems pretty tough on Arsenal, having already lost Flamini (or Fla'money') along with ongoing Hleb leaving reports and the infamous 'icecream incident' and the public courting of Adebayor.

I think that Arsenal would actually do better by selling and letting these players go. Look at the stats, Adebayor, yes he had 30 goals last season in 47 appearances. But considering he scored 2 hattricks against woeful Derby, this brings down his stats to 24 in 45 appearances. This is still decent, but having the number of chances that he did he should be banging in more than 50 goals this season.

Another leaver is Aleksander Hleb, having scored 4 goals the entire season including Champions League he should be ashamed of being known as an attacking midfielder. Even Gallas a center back scored more than him in the Premier League! Nasri should do better, with his passing, ability to beat defenders and score (something that Hleb never really accomplished).

Haha and continuing on from last post, I've found various Football Schools at the HK Activity
website. There is also lots of other activities available at the Action Zone.

Hockey also looks pretty interesting!

Hong Kong Specific Sports

Horse Racing

While it might seem a bit old and outdated, Horse Racing is a really popular activity in Hong Kong, well at least the betting side of it is. It is moderated by The Hong Kong Jockey Club, this all started with the British Colonisation of Hong Kong.

What wikipedia has to say --->
The British tradition of horse racing left its mark as one of the most important entertainment and gambling institutions in Hong Kong. Established as the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club in 1884, the non-profit organisation conducts nearly 700 races every season at the two race tracks in Happy Valley and Sha Tin. The sport annually draws in over 11% of Hong Kong's tax revenue. Off-track betting is available from overseas bookmakers.

Now back to me, it can be seen that Horse Racing is indeed an integral part of Hong Kong. It is no easier than to click a couple of links to sign up at a Riding School. Whats even better is that the government actually subsidies some of these activities making it available to the public at even lower prices.

Water Sports in Hong Kong

Cooooooool down.

Hong Kong summers sure are boiling hot...so hot that even world class football players have to take extra breaks within the half (hahaha). Therefore it shouldn't come as a surprise that swimming is one of Hong Kong's most popular sports. Be it outdoors or indoors, there are around 20 public swimming pools around Hong Kong, open to those who like water and are ready to escape the sweltering heat.

There are even more opportunities for those who want to add another dimension of fun to their water sports. I wasn't actually aware of this until I came across the HK Activity website, but turns out there are wakeboarding and windsurfing activities in Hong Kong! Betcha didn't know that either.

So, if you'd like to stop melting under the sun or are bored of endlessly killing monsters to level up on some computer game, check out the Water Sports zone on HK activity. There is a Scuba Diving zone as well; yup, the water's actually (very) blue in some parts of Hong Kong, and yup, there's actually stuff living in the water.

I myself look like I've just taken a swim in my clothes after 2 hours on the tennis court, so I suppose it's time to get wet...but on purpose this time.

Beijing Olympics

WOO HOOO!!!!

Being a member of Hong Kong's society and of Chinese decent we feel the pride of being the hosting country for Year 2008's Olympics. Compounding to the fact that it is only the 3rd ever Asian country to host it, with Japan and South Korea being it's preceders (and Russa/USSR excluded as it is located in 2 continents), makes the prospect of Beijing Olympics a welcoming one.

Whats more? Hong Kong, where I reside in is allocated the rights to host Equestrian events. This means that I can potentially watch a section of the Olympics at home without even leaving the city. Despite the closeness, I would have to fight through crowds and wait overnight to have a chance to purchase tickets of attendance. With the humid summers and scorching temperatures and occasional days with rainfall heavy enough to dampen Olympic Spirits, this is not a good thing to befall on a poor soul who just wants to be part of the Olympics.

According to the almighty Wikipedia, 10,500 athletes are expected to compete in 302 events in 28 sports between the dates of August 8 and August 24.

From the local news, it seems that the Chinese Government is very interested in promoting it's local businesses and remove the 'communist' stereotyping that they un-deservingly obtained from the US.

Well, thats it for my Olympics talk! You can have a look at the Olympics Page that my friend has set up! It provides a constantly updated medals chart medals chart and timetables for events.

Obesity

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Obesity is not something that everyone suffers from, sometimes its even difficult to determine whether you are obese. It can be determined by genes, family and parenting. But these aren't the only deciding factor. By staying away from fatty and oily foods and doing regular exercise anyone, even you if you currently obese can be fit.

BBC states that being fat can actually damage sperm. If you're a male, that might detrimental effects on you having a child.

"It's one more reason for men to lose weight."

So take action today and life a better lifestyle by doing more Sports, if thats not your thing getting out there and doing Creative Activities or even Community Service would be more beneficial to not only your character but your health and well being.
