Model Railways

And Railway Enthusiasts

A Hobby for all ages, model railways allows you to be as creative as your imagination allows or for the true railway enthusiast an opportunity to re-create an authentic model railway layout; either way it can be fun and satisfying and something that can be created in a spare room in the home or as in the case of Nathanville, the loft.

Space and cost permitting, it can be a simple layout with just one rail track or complex with many tracks; each one independently controlled.

These lenses below gives detailed information on construction and provides links to other relevant railway related lenses.

The Origin of Nathanville Model Railway Village

It all begain with building a Model Railway in the loft for my son Nathan

A great many years ago a model railway village was built in our loft, and after some thought, we named it Nathanville after my son 'Nathan'. Nathanville Model Railway Village was the first subject to be posted to my original website which we named Nathanville after the Model Railway Village.

In due course as the website grew and developed other hobbies and leisure interests such as Genealogy and Gardening were added but we kept the original name Nathanville in honour of its origin, Nathanville the Model Railway Village.

Organic Gardening

Organic and Herbs

Robin in Organic GardenHow do you garden?

Victorian or some other formal garden style where everything is laid-out neatly in straight lines and squares, less formally with curves or informally; medieval style e.g. English Cottage Garden.

My preference in medieval style not just because it can be pleasing to the eye but also because of the many advantages such as better weed suppression; water retention (during dry spells); easier and healthier pest control, especially if you work with nature e.g. it's done organically and incorporates a wildlife pond.

Below are two lenses giving detailed information on organic gardening medieval style and growing herbs.

Home DIY

Thinking out of the box

Hand Made, built-in, Kitchen LarderKitchen Renovations, building your own larder and built in welsh-dresser and utilising dead space are some of the topics covered here.

I don't like wasted space, especially in a small home where space is of a premium, so moving a door to a new location to free up space in the kitchen, creating a cloakroom from wasted space; building units into alcoves and turning a redundant fireplace into shelving are just a few of the ideas featured in these lenses.

The extent to which you can save space and create a pleasing living environment in the home is limited to your imagination, cost and how handy you are with tools e.g. DIY.

Read on, get the tools out; and happy hammering...
