Sidney Crosby is one of the top young players today. He helped guide the Pittsburgh Penguins to last years Stanley Cup playoffs, but lost to the Detroit Red Wings. Crosby's hockey cards are very much sought after by collectors, with his rookie card being one of the most valuable.

Why should you get your hockey cards graded? A graded sports card carries a premium over an ungraded or "raw" card. For older cards, there is a finite number of cards available in top condition. As more and more older hockey cards are graded, those few that remain ungraded will slip in value.

At auction, graded cards continue to bring a premium. Those judged to be 9.5-10 have an even greater demand due to their relative scarcity. Many mint raw cards can be purchased for $20-$30 dollars and after being graded, if they are of a high quality, they can be sold for as much as $100-$200 or greater depending on who's card it is.

Another reason for having your cards graded is that they are then encased in a hard cover which keeps out the elements and prevents any accidental creasing of the card. Basically it will help ensure that your sportscards hold their grade which is pretty much the whole reason for collecting cards based on condition.

Ovechkin emerged as a bonafied scoring threat for the Washington Capitals with 65 goals a couple of seasons back. No one has had numbers like his since Mario Lemieux retired.

Ovechkin won just about every piece of hardware available to an individual player including the Rocket Richard Trophy, although last season he missed winning the coveted award by one goal as Crosby and Steven Stamkos tied for the goal scoring lead.
