Birmingham International Airport at Wikipedia 

Birmingham International Airport is an international airport located east southeast of Birmingham city centre, at Bickenhill in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull within the West Midlands, England. In 2007 it was the sixth busiest airport in the UK and second busiest not serving London after Manchester.

The airport is a major base for Bmibaby, Flybe, Monarch Airlines, Ryanair and Thomson Airways. The airline that operates most flights to Birmingham is Flybe however the airline that transports most passengers at Birmingham is Ryanair and Bmibaby is close behind.

Birmingham has a CAA Public Use Aerodrome Licence (Number P451) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction.

The airport is close to the M42 motorway and A45 main road. It is connected by the elevated AirRail Link with Birmingham International railway station on the West Coast Main Line.

The airport handled a record 9,627,589 passengers in 2008, up 4.3% from 9,226,340 in 2007, and a 20% increase over the six years since 2002. Birmingham had the largest increase in passenger numbers of any UK airport in 2008. It offers flights within the UK, Europe, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, North America and the Caribbean.

Birmingham Airport History 

Birmingham International Airport (BHX) opened its main terminal in 1984 woth a capacity for three million passengers. In 1991 the second terminal was opened. The passenger flights numbers from Birmingham Airport now exceed seven million annually.

Driving Directions 

From Birmingham city centre take the A45 east towards Coventry. From the South or North of England take the M42 (which links to the M40 and M1 from London, M6 from Manchester and the M5 from the South East) to Junction 6, turn off onto the A45 towards Birmingham City centre, Birmingham International Airport is signposted along the A45.

Rail & Coach Links 

Birmingham International Station has fast rail links to and from the rest of the country. Air Rail link (a shuttle bus) runs between the station and the airport every 10 minutes, the journey takes about 2 minutes and is free. National Express runs coaches from London Victoria to Birmingham International Airport (around 4 hrs). Services also run from the airport to Coventry, Rugby, Northampton, Bedford, Manchester, Cambridge and many other towns and cities. Nearby Digbeth Coach station offers even more access to National routes. Buses run to Digbeth from the airport approximately every half an hour. Buses run frequently to and from Birmingham airport from the city centre, Solihull, Chelmsley Wood and other surrounding towns.
