Hollywood Palace Video Showcase
Ranked #25,255 in Entertainment, #281,627 overall
The Hollywood Palace
The Hollywood Place ran on ABC from January 4, 1964 to February 7, 1970. The show was taped, but acts were usually recorded with a continuous take and little editing. This made the show appear more lively and spontaneous. Each week brought a new host. Big Crosby was the first week's host and returned twenty-eight times. Milton Berle, Sammy Davis Jr., Sid Caesar, and Jimmy Durante were other frequent hosts.
Some of the most popular acts in show business were guests of the show. A few of the superstars that showed up were the Rolling Stones, the Supremes, Frank Sinatra, the Temptations, Bette Davis, Dean Martin, the Jackson 5 ... the list goes on and on. (Check my links for a full list of performers.)
Little known at the time, Raquel Welch did a stint the first season as the "Billboard Girl". As an homage to vaudeville, her job was to put the names of the next act on a placard. Raquel is pictured here with David Janssen.
