HERE'S WHAT I THINK
Home-Based Business vs Corporate Employment
People are tired of the long hours and the long commute.
Generation Y is changing the business world as more and more young people work from home.
The surge in home-based business is staggering. Why?
Low start-up cost
Internet=global access.
Family care vs. childcare
Personal freedom
No commute
Tax advantages
Own boss
Less stress
Work smarter not harder
Personal growth
Flexible hours vs.long hours
So what do you think? What does Corporate America offer?
YOUR TURN!
Home- Based Business vs Corporate Employment

Hi Kelly and Curt just added you on Twitter (Steveffeo)
I think working from home is best from a Green, Financial, spiritual and family relationships standpoint. The hard part is starting off and building 3-10 revenue streams from the Net which are consistent each month. I suggest building your first 2-5 web properties about subjects you love, after you establish yourself as an expert in those fields you could move on to teaching others how to build and market on the Net. Another suggestion is find a Non-Profit in each of your niches, contact them network and learn from them and Help them. It is the system I use, it perhaps takes a bit longer but it works:)

I always thought people worked to many hours. I think everyone should only work 4 days a week and shorter hours. Living, family and friends should be more important than working. Of course same pay or more.

Home based entrepreneurship is truly the best choice compared to corporate employment. It is really interesting to see how strategic decisions/ board meetings can be held through a virtual network.

having your own business is the way to go. As a business owner you get more tax benifits. Why make someone else rich when you can work for yourself

I am enjoying my freedom as a Home Based Business Owner. There are days where it is a challenge getting any work done, but then again I had those days at my corporate job too... I am just starting out and am in the beginning stages of getting my customers and business organized. Nothing but more Happiness in the future.

I love working from home (most days). I will say that it isn't all sunshine and rainbows though. It takes a certain mindset to really make working from home and running your own business work for you.

Home based business is GREAT for anyone wanting to have the best of both worlds. It's ideal for the Mom or Dad who wants to raise their children themselves and still earn an income, the retiree who isn't ready to be put out to pasture yet, the student who needs money for tution, the commuter who has had it with the corporate scene or the physically disabled who finds it difficult to find outside employment. As long as they have access to a computer and the Internet, the world awaites!

Why sell your freedom for a monthly salary? Why do you let others control the time you wake up, go to bed? Why do you want to join in the traffic jams early in the morning? Why do you have to wear power suits to please the eyes of others? Why do you want to waste time with office politics, back stabbings, stupid colleagues when you can manage your time better at home?

Home Based Business is growing because people like to have options and flexability that can't be taken away from them and won't cost them money to exercise. go check out my lens and see if you can get the kind of raises I am getting on your J.O.B.

Agree! I think that entrepreneurship is the key to getting financial freedom. Although it is true that some companies do give good packages but you get only a portion of the pie. The large chunk goes back to the company. But it entails hardwork, diligence and dedication. That goes without saying. The thing is that you will get full compensation for the effort you put in - more work, more money; less work, less money.
It is also a way to have more time with your family. When you work at home, you get to see what's going on around the house. that's the best part for me.

I agree... after being laid off from too many places to name (NASA, Cisco Systems, Veritas Software, to name a few), I'm continuing to work as an "independant contractor" editor/writer while building my sideline businesses in Internet/Network marketing, freelance editing/writing, copywriting, SEO writing, and teaching for fun and profit. (I'm a former teacher as well!) I love teaching, but the low-pay, politics, and bureaucratic baloney don't help in making it a "better" job. So now I'm satisfying my "need to teach and share" with my Squidoo lenses, and also learning a little about Internet/Network Marketing -- ramping up to when I make enough each month from residual income such that I can edit and write at a more leisurely pace with flexible hours and flexible locations (the beach in Hawaii sounds fine, thank you!). Nice lens you have here!

I'm not all yes or all no on this one. I think that corporate employment is a GREAT way to start a career, find out likes and dislikes by doing, observing, and having different supervisors. An important part of self-discovery. After a few years in corporate employment and some self-stability, THEN is the time to really branch out on your own and start your own biz -- homebased or not. I'm working on my own home-based biz. Some folks don't realize how much hard work, contacts, and phone calling it takes to make it! Self-starting and motivated will be successful. It's hard to 'call in sick' when it's your own biz at stake!!

It really depends on what company you work for. Some companies offer really nice benefits like gym memberships, telecommuting, flex hours, stock options, errands, childcare, tuition reimbursement.

- I love your philosophy and I think you are absolutely right about working smarter, not harder. Successful home based businesses take time and effort to build and it needs a fair amount of faith sometimes to keep going - but I'm sure it is worth it!
Hats off to those who have achieved such successful living, great lens

- With all the work at Home scams out there, its hard to find the 1 that works for you. I've tried many before finding a "legitimate" lifetime business opportunity that I actually make a profit from. Working from home is not that easy. It takes dedication, and alot of time and effort like any business. I was named the "rookie of the year" in my work at home business. Come and check out what I do full time now.
