"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." W B yeats
Homeschooling - also called home education or home school - is the education of children at home, typically by parents or guardians, rather than in a public or private school.
Unschooling is a form of education in which learning is based on the student's interests, needs, and goals. It may be alternatively referred to as natural learning, child-led learning, discovery learning, delight-led learning, or child-directed learning.
Deschooling is a term used to describe the process through which a child goes when removed from school and isĀ re-acclimatised towards the new environment of home education.
"Thank goodness I was never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some of the originality." Beatrix Potter
Home education has matured into a recognised form of education. The idea that a child is nurtured and encouraged to think and learn from the world around them as well as through recognised teaching methods creates a well-balanced individual with a thirst for knowledge. With time to stop and think, to explain and study everywhere the home educated child goes there is wonder and excitement in the child-led system of learning.
This lens provides you with a snapshot of resources available on the internet to the home schooling family and a look into the everyday lives of some home educators and home schooled children.
