home energy conservation tip #10 -- Get with the Program
Energy Efficient Thermostats Save You Money
Why pay for heat or AC you don't need? You can save energy and money by using a programable thermostat. It can reduce your energy needs from heat or AC when you are at work, away at vacation, or asleep.

Hunter 44550 Auto Save 7-Day Programmable Thermostat

"This is not a particularly expensive thermostat, but it might as well be because you get a lot more than you pay for. It was so easy to install that my not-particularly-handy husband was able to do it (he DID have to read the directions, but he did NOT have to ask for help). It works really well, we love the indigo glow, and the program is really easy to use and really convenient for people who don't work the standard 9-5 M-F that some thermostats limit their programs to. The energy-saver programs are also really nice. All in all, I think this was a great buy."

- Very useful advice, keep up the great work.
I am surprised you omitted to mention insulating the loft and cavity walls given government grants are available throughout the USA & the UK.
There is a stack of information on this in the UK however the USA is a little scarce given rules vary from state to state, possibly something for a future article!

- I found it interesting that Gilbey33 stated that the Repower initiative can improve america's energy efficiency by 23%. That is the the extact percentage I have been able to achieve by using the 'whole house' method of conserving energy at home.
I have been working to reduce my home energy loss by applying the 'whole house' method to conserving energy. The experience and results have been fantastic. Not only have I reduced my energy loss by 23% (35% when I compare first quarter 2008 vs 2009..whole house method still working!) but I have greatly improved the overall comfort of my home.
I decided to document my experiences and how I did it in a series of small eBooks. Check it out at www.stophomeenergyloss.com It's free..really..no email required..nothing. I have a huge pile of notes that I am still working through so I don't have everything document yet, but I am plowing through it! If you can't do it all at least do a little. Give it a shot!

- Great lens. I just started to get into the green thing and so far I am loving it. My bills have dropped and I am finding that I have more money to spend on things I want.
It all started with a set of books I bought that show you how to save money on your bills. But now I know that gowing green is so much more than that.
However all the extra money is really nice to.
