A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands enjoyed by both sexes. A manicure can treat just the hands, just the nails, or both. A standard manicure would usually include filing and shaping of the nails and the application of polish. French manicure is the latest and popular method in the nail fashion. A similar treatment performed on the feet is a pedicure. A manicurist can also apply treatments to real nails, such as painting pictures or designs on the nails or applying imitation jewels.

6 Things You Need to Keep In Your Manicure Kit

  1. Glass Nail File: For perfectly filed nails, it's best to invest in a glass nail file. Although they tend to be a little more expensive than your average emery board, they are better for your nails. Glass nail files leave your nails smoother and less jagged than other types, are easy to sterilize, and are much better for acrylic nails.
  2. Base Coat: While it may not seem very important to put that thin layer of clear polish on your nails before your vibrant colored polish, it actually essential to healthy and great looking nails. A good base coat can help protect your nails from staining, especially when using dark colored polish. It's also a great way to ensure healthy nails that won't split, peel, break, or become brittle. When purchasing a basecoat, look for one that contains aloe vera, or vitamin E to help fortify your nails. Nails that are healthy will look great and the base coat will help nail polish go on smoother and stay on longer.
  3. Top Coat: A top coat for your nails will help keep nail polish looking great by preventing chipping and helping polish last longer. A top coat can help keep polish on during work, washing dishes, or other activities that can be destructive to a manicure.
  4. Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover: Non-acetone nail polish remover is important for a couple reasons. While a normal polish remover would suffice for simply taking some unsightly polish of your tips, it's not recommended when removing nail polish from acrylic nails. Non-acetone polish remover is also a great way to help ensure your nail polish adheres to your nails properly. Remove any unwanted oils from your nails by taking a cotton ball dipped in non-acetone remover and wiping it across your nails. This primes the nails for painting. To make sure you're always prepared, it's good to have this multi-use remover on hand.
  5. Nail Clippers/Tweezers: A good pair of nail clippers is an essential tool for your nail health and over all comfort. A pair of nail clippers that isn't really up to par can lead to jagged edges and painful hangnails. Likewise, tweezers are also essential for keeping clean and healthy fingers nails and toenails.
  6. Cotton Pads: Cotton pads are a great thing to keep in your nail kit. These cotton pieces can be used to remove nail polish, prime nails for applying polish, or help keep toes separated during a pedicure. They are inexpensive and are more practical than paper towels or tissues when removing polish.

Wikipedia About Manicure

A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands performed either at home or in a nail salon by a professional nail technician. A manicure treatment isnt necessarily a treatment for the natural nails but also for the hands. A manicure consists of filing, shaping of the free edge, cuticle treatments with massage and the application of polish. There are also manicure services that are specialties for the hands and feet. For the hands, the soaking of a softening substance and the application of a lotion is a common speciality. This procedure can be applied to the toenails and feet, this treatment is referred to as a Pedicure. The word "manicure" derives from Latin: manus for "hand," cura for "care."

In addition to the filing, polishing, and painting of fingernails, a manicure may also include the application of artificial nail tips, acrylics or artificial nail gels. Some manicures can include the painting of pictures or designs on the nails or applying small decals or imitation jewels.

In many areas, manicurists are licensed and follow regulation. Since skin is manipulated and is sometimes trimmed, there is a certain risk of spreading infection when tools are used across many people and, therefore, sanitation is a serious issue.

Manicure Tips

Nail polish removing

Take cotton balls as many as you need them, soak each finger well with nail polish remover, so that your fingernails true color start appearing. Use a very less quantity of nail polish remover to remove the nail polish. Since nail polish is extremely drying, never soak the nail in it, especially the cuticle. Keep the good contacts of your nails with the nail polish.

Soaking and removing cuticles

Your cuticle is like a fore skin. It is found at the bottom of your nail, where finger nail cartilage and skin meets. To remove cuticle, soak your nail in warm water for 3 minutes or less. Now use cartilage remover to push the cuticle down.

Trimming your fingernails

To trim out toenails, use nail clippers. To reshape or shorten nails, simply use nail clippers. If your nails are hard, soak them in water before trimming. If you have soft nails, do not trim after bathing or washing, because in doing so you may cause damage, which sometime may lead to infection. Do not cut too short toenails, because doing so increase the chances of developing ingrown toenails.

Filling Nails

Use emery board to make your fingernails smooth and good looking. You can use emery board to smoothen the ends of your fingernails. Do not use emery board to scrap your natural nail surface at all. This will make the nails surface rough.

Exfoliating & Moisturizing Hands and Feet

Now use sugar wash to massage your feet, legs, arms and feet. Rinse your hands first and then use pumice stone to rub away callus and other rough surfaces on the bottom of your feet. Now, rinse the scrub of your feet and legs. Now, use moisturizer or some other soothing cream for your hands and feet that may heal a cracked and roughdry skin.

Polishing Nails

Remove excess moisturizer using polish remover. Polish your nails and dry them between coats, preferably minimum of four coats. If you have weak or brittle nails, place one or two coats of ridge filling nail polish on the nail as base coat to shore up the nail. Two coats of a colored nail polish are next, followed by a topcoat to add luster. Use foam toe separators to fingers, while polishing. Allow drying the polish.
