Matthew 25: 34-40

Handpainted Mural In Our Courtyard

34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

(Matthew 25:34-40, King James Version)

HOME ON THE WAY MINISTRIES, INC.

Our Story, by Tom Daniel

April 1997

One morning in late April, Tom and Shirley Daniel were praying at their dining room table in their home in Peoria, Arizona. They had just completed communion and were still in an attitude of prayer when Shirley saw a vision of them moving out of their lovely home and into one of the shacks that Tom owned at 16th Street and East Monroe in Phoenix, Arizona.

Shirley was saturated with an overwhelming sense of God's peace and presence, and asked the Lord... "What was that?"
The Lord spoke to Shirley and said, "Tell your husband what you saw."

Tom, who had been attending a men's discipleship class called "Life Partners" had been practicing observing his wife's countenance and describing the emotion he saw and learning how to minister to Shirley's spirit. Needless to say, that morning there were no words to describe the look on Shirley's face, so he asked her, "What's wrong?"

She replied to him by telling him the vision that she had seen. Tom reacted strongly and said, "There is no way I'm moving down there, NO!" Shirley then said, I don't understand it either, but let's just pray and fast about the meaning of it, and put it on the shelf for now.
Tom agreed, then left to go the the inner city where he did the maintenance and picked up the money for the properties that he had owned and managed for more than 15 years.

On the way down to his work, the Lord spoke to Tom's spirit and asked, "Why don't you want to move down there with your tenants? Are you too proud?" The second thing He asked him was, "Do you love your "things" more than you love me?" His answers brought deep conviction and then extreme joy as the Lord gave him a willing heart.

On the other hand, Shirley had been pacing up and down the floor of her home in Peoria, trying to figure out what the Lord could possibly be doing. Was this a judgement because of something she and Tom had done that did not please the Lord?

(Both had been divorced, and were now re-married.)

This was Satan's best shot at trying to discourage Shirley from believing that God had only a good future ahead for them. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Then God spoke very clearly to Shirley's heart and said, "I left my home in glory, streets paved with gold and mansions far beyond anything your eyes can comprehend and I came to earth where I had no home and no place to lay my head and I did it for you! Would you take a "little bit of heaven" to 16th Street and East Monroe and just be a Christlike neighbor to those who have never seen one?"

Shirley's answer was "Yes, Lord!" Over the next few weeks, God gave Tom and Shirley several confirmations that this was His will for their lives. Through an attitude of prayer and repentance and contrition as Landlords they could make atonement for the sins that had been committed on their properties.
So, June 1, 1997, Tom and Shirley Daniel moved out of their home in Peoria (1600 sq.ft., 3 bedroom, 2 bath) into a 1 bedroom, 1 bath 432 sq.ft. cottage on 16th Street. That was the beginning of a restorative work in both their lives as well as their properties. The Lord gradually revealed His plan to them as they were ready to receive it.

Tom and Shirley never intended to start a ministry or become ministers, they only wanted to be obedient to just be a "Christlike neighbor to those who had never seen one."

Today, after 12 years of showing God's love to their neighbors, more than 1000 men, women and children are fed, clothed and preached to each month through the combined efforts of at least 6 valley churches and 3 other evangelistic ministries. The four properties that Tom originally owned were donated to the ministry on June 1, 2001. In August, 2001, 2 of the properties were sold, leaving 2 free and clear to use for the Lord's work. Those two properties are located at 3030 W. Van Buren Street and 1539 E. Monroe Street in Phoenix, Arizona.

How We Help

Food, Clothing, Shoes, Showers, Referrals, & Lots Of TLC

Homelessness is a deep rooted mindset that is not easily overcome. Many of the homeless that are served at Home On The Way and My Father's House have been coming to utilize our services for many years. It takes a long time to learn to overcome the trust issues that are common to those who are homeless. We are blessed to be able to address the practical issues of food, clothing and showers, but we also provide referrals to other community resources for those who want to put an end to their homeless lifestyle.

David & Mary Drop By To Pick Up Clothing Donations

David and Mary are representatives from the Scottsdale Worship Center. Word is out that we distribute clothing to the homeless, and God's Abundance (our clothing storage building) is bursting with donations!

This team of angels showed up to pick up the clothing, take it to the church where they cleaned, sifted and sorted through the donations, and placed them back into plastic tubs for return to our storage bin.

Did I mention? The church also donated those plastic bins to store the donations in... So, how's that for service with style?

But, that kind of service is typical to everyone who donates their time, talents and labor to the kingdom activities that are taking place in Phoenix, Arizona!

After all, that's what being part of God's family is all about... when you're looking for the gospel in action, visit the Scottsdale Worship Center. You'll be really glad you did!

HOW and MFH look so good. I am so excited to be able to see the properties again. This opportunity has me in tears. I am so grateful for my opportunity there as I learned that I can give up everything to serve God and not be held by Satan's grip. PTL! I just returned from a weeks vacation serving with Friend Ships in Lake Charles. Just as God gave up everything to be a man, what am I if I am not willing to do so. He is so much more than I. I am nothing without Him, Jesus. I only live because He died for me. HOW showed me that I can die to the world. I am so pleased with the website and will be checking in on the updates. God bless you in the name of Jesus, amen.
