Organizing Your Life With Kids Included
You thought you had long clean up times before you had children. You never realized that your children come with more belongings than you-that's when it's time to take charge and make your home work for you, not the other way around.
When you first have children, or even before you have children, you think about all of the wonderful changes that will occur in your life-you are bringing a new life into the world after all and your baby's first smile most certainly changes%u2026well, everything.
But then, as your children start to grow older, you quickly begin to realize and notice that your children also come with-what some might call disadvantages-challenges that need to be solved. One of the biggest challenges is remembering to teach your children to be more organized and tidy than you are.
My sister was blessed with my niece, who by all accounts, the family refers to as a little bit of a neat freak princess. At only two years old, my niece already washes her hands at least 15 times a day%u2026by herself. She also cleans up her own toys, straightens her blankets and dolls and has already been potty trained fully-although before that, she certainly wasn't shy about making sure we knew when she needed to be changed. Of course, she also says please and thank you every time without being told or being asked. And all this without much training%u2026just observation.

Area Rugs A Huge Help
Since most children don't come equipped with an auto-clean button like my niece, there's always the perimeter rule. I happen to have a very large area rug in the middle of my living room and my children have learned that the mess should stay in the middle of the rug when they are playing with toys in that particular room and that everything in the middle of the area rug must be cleaned up before bedtime.I've also taught my children to separate their toys by color-since I have a large modern area rug with a modular design, my oldest son can put his toys on blue and my youngest can put his toys on green and then they know who's responsible for which toys.
Of course, this isn't the only advantage I've found to having large area rugs when you need to keep things tidy with your kids. I have area rugs with very thick piles in every room of my home. So whether it's the oriental area rug in the dining room, the red area rug in the living room or the shag area rug in the bedroom, if my children spill, I know that I have an easy clean up ahead of me instead of a disastrously long clean up.
You see, that's the thing about kids. They don't all come with an instruction booklet or a self-propelled clean-up program. In fact, most kids come completely the opposite. But if there's one thing I do know it's that all children should come with a high quality area rug%u2026not just for perimeters but for easy clean up too.
And remember, it's not just the high traffic, highly visible areas of your home that benefit from the organization and cleanliness of an area rug. Put them in your kids' rooms too!
