Home Studio Recording Equipment

Any Home Studio Recording set up must have an Audio Interface sometimes known as a sound card. This type of Audio Interface is of a digital nature as to work with a computer. Most computers do come with hardware for your audio use; however, for better quality of sound the upgrade to a audio interface or sound card should be used in Home Studio Recording. This Interface may be a USB, Plug-in Card or a Fire Wire type interface. Instead of this interface being installed in the computer, the audio interface is connected by Firewire or USB on the outside of the computer. USB 2.0 Technology has given Fire Wire some stiff competition.
Most desktop computers that are designed for home use have enough power to be able to support a complete home studio recording environment. Home desktops may be used for editing audio, music scoring of videos and recording multi-tracks.

There is a different type of microphone used for home studio recording than we are used to using. In Home Studio recording a Condenser Microphone is used instead of a Dynamic Microphone. The difference being the two is the quality of sound. Dynamic Microphones will record sounds that are close up whereas a condenser microphone will record the smallest of detail. Using acoustic foam is imperative when working with a condenser microphone. Otherwise, undesired sounds may be picked up that were not intended to be heard will be recorded.
Condenser Microphone can break if not handled properly. This is mainly due to their delicate nature. Moreover, because of this most Condenser Microphone will be used with a stand only. Condenser Microphones will mostly have XLR connections and operate on phantom power. Condenser Microphones will also include: a high-shelf cut-off switch, a bass filter cutoff switch, and phantom power. All these components are built-in to the Condenser Microphone.

When setting up a home studio you trust your ears. Having the monitors that fit your needs will improve your Home Studio Recording experience. One way to enhance the amount of listening space is to adjust the speakers into diverse parts of a room. Having your speaker set up against a wall may not be a great idea! As a matter of fact, keep adjusting your entire recording station (while listening to the sound) away from the wall and closer to the wall until you reach the maximum sound and mixing performance. The look of the home studio is not as important as the sound that is being produced.
Do not put trust in computer speakers! Invest in a nice set of monitors that are used exclusively for the studio or your home studio recording.
