Designing the Perfect Home Theater System

Home theater design is like picturing a movie theater in mini size. The most important parts of a home movie theater are the audio system (ie. speakers), the video equipment (television or projector) and the surroundings.

Designing Home Theater Video

Television or Movie Projector?

The options you have for your home theater video equipment are an HD television set and a movie projector. Both are fine choices, as long as the quality of the equipment is good enough. Even a very large TV is no good, if image quality is poor, which is why HD televisions are the only recommended options.

The choice between a television set and a home theater projector comes down to the size of the room housing your home movie theater. A small room cannot house a movie projector, while a large room needs either a large television set or a movie projector.

Designing Home Theater Audio

Speakers - Quality and Quantity

You home theater audio system will consist of at least three speakers. Two satellite speakers and a subwoofer are the absolute minimum required for a home movie theater, and enough for a small room provided the quality is good.

A larger room needs a more powerful audio system. Such will usually consist of at least five home theater speakers with surround support and a subwoofer. If your room is large enough, you cannot do with only three speakers and a six speaker sound system is a necessity.

Home Theater Furniture

The Finishing Touch

After audio and video equipment, there is still something to your home theater. That is of course special home theater furniture.

Most often home theater furniture consists of only viewing chairs and a television cabinet. However, especially a larger room may use some extra furniture for a finishing touch. Examples include serving tables, or extra curtains for the windows.
