Margarita Pizza Recipe

Fresh Tomato Pizza

Margarita Pizza, or Fresh Tomato Pizza, is a deliciously light alternative to the heavier, greasier (though still delicious) regular pizza we all know and love. It's fast and easy to make because sliced fresh tomatoes are used in place of the sauce.

Ingredients

One uncooked traditional Pizza dough (Fresh, Frozen or pre-made)

2 to 3 medium sized red tomatoes, thinly sliced (as thin as you can get them)
1 ½ cups Fresh Mozzarella Cheese, thinly sliced
3 or 4 leaves Fresh Basil (chopped)
3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
Salt, Pepper, and Garlic powder, to taste

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit

Stretch pizza dough to fit your pan or stone.
Place pizza dough on pizza stone. (Or pan)
Place tomato slices in a single layer on top of pizza dough.
Place the sliced mozzarella cheese on top of the tomato slices, also in a single layer.
Sprinkle the chopped basil over the top.
Drizzle Olive oil evenly over the entire pizza.
Season with salt, pepper and a dash of garlic powder.
Place pizza in oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until crust is golden.

Makes 8 slices

Brooklyn Style (or Grandma) Pizza

Why You Should Make Pizza on a Pizza Stone

The best argument I can give you on the importance of using a pizza stone when making homemade pizza is that the crust doesn't burn.

I can't tell you how many times I pulled a gorgeous pizza from the oven, while using metal pans, only to find the crust a nasty shade of black. I gotta tell you, soot is not one of my favorite pizza toppings. (or bottomings)

Since using pizza stones for making my pizzas, I haven't burnt not one pizza. They do however take a little bit more time when cooking but hey, perfect pizza crust is well worth the wait.

Pizza stones also work very well when making things like bread, bisquits and cookies.

When purchasing a pizza stone, buy one that is high quality. Spending a few dollars straight off will pay off bundles in the long run. I've heard too many stories of cheap pizza stones cracking.

Keep in mind that even the most expensive pizza stone will crack if not properly taken care of. You need to let them cool down before cleaning and be careful not to drop them.

Never put your pizza stone into the dishwasher.

I've been using the same pizza stones for about 10 years now.

Pizza stones come in many shapes and sizes, I like the round ones that I have but do intend to purchase a square one for making better Sicilian pies.

Old Stone Pizza Stones

For the Best Homemade Pizza

A baking stone for home oven use reminiscent of the stone baking ovens of earlier times. Over 30 years ago the Old Stone Oven Company first introduced the baking store for home use and it is still the best. Thicker than other stones available, it has a porosity and heat retention that is perfect for a good crust. The Old Stone Oven Pizza Stone duplicates crispy pizzeria quality pizza - crust and all- in a standard kitchen oven. The Stone can also be used to bake bread, rolls and biscuits giving them a very special texture and quality or as a warming tray to keep waffles, pancakes, fried chicken, etc warm until ready to serve.

Cutting Pizza Slices

Pizza Cutters

When making homemade pizza, it's important to have a good sharp pizza cutter on hand.

The traditional round pizza pie is cut into 8 slices but at home we usually go with 6 slices.

Sicialain pies can have 12 to 16 slices depending on how large they are. With Sicilian pizza, I think it is best to cut smaller, esier to handle, slices since this type of pizza is heavy already.

Open Your Own Pizza Parlour

If you are thinking about one day opening your own pizza and sub shop start by purchasing this helpful book.

How to Open a Financially Successful Pizza & Sub Restaurant

The explosive growth of the pizza and sub shops across the country has been phenomenal. Take a look at these stats: Americans eat approximately 100 acres of pizza each day, or about 350 slices per second. Pizza is a $32+ billion per year industry. Pizza restaurant growth continues to outpace overall restaurant growth. Pizzerias represent 17 percent of all restaurants. Pizza accounts for more that 10 percent of all food service sales. Here is the manual you need to cash in on this highly profitable segment of the food service industry. This new book is a comprehensive and detailed study of the business side of the restaurant. This superb manual should be studied by anyone investigating the opportunities of opening a pizza or sub restaurant. It will arm you with everything you need including sample business forms, leases, and contracts; worksheets and checklists for planning, opening, and running day-to-day operations; sample menus; inventory lists; plans and layouts; and dozens of other valuable, time-saving tools of the trade that no restaurant entrepreneur should be without. While providing detailed instruction and examples, the author leads you through finding a location that will bring success, learn how to draw up a winning business plan (the companion CD-ROM has the actual pizza restaurant business plan that you can use in MS Word), basic cost-control systems, profitable menu planning, successful kitchen management, equipment layout and planning, food safety and HACCP, successful beverage management, legal concerns, sales and marketing techniques, pricing formulas, learn how to set up computer systems to save time and money, learn how to hire and keep a qualified professional staff, new IRS tip-reporting requirements, managing and training employees, generate high-profile public relations and publicity, learn low-cost internal marketing ideas, low- and no-cost ways to satisfy customers and build sales, learn how to keep bringing customers back.

The Art of Pizza Making: Trade Secrets and Recipes

This book is a comprehensive guide to all aspects of pizza making, for both the amateur pizza maker, and for those who would like to open their own pizzeria. It contains additional information not normally found in a cookbook such as trade secrets, where to buy ingredients wholesale (e.g., the high gluten flour), and comparisons and instructions for special preparation and baking equipment such as baking pans, baking stones, pizza screens, commercial pizza ovens, mixing machines and proof boxes. It also contains my unique collection of over 40 pizza recipes such as barbecue, breakfast, Buffalo, calzone, cheeseburger, deep fried (a.k.a. Old Forge style ), dessert, Hawaiian, Indian, mac-n-cheese, mashed potato, Middle East, pesto, red, roasted red pepper, seafood, Sicilian, Southwest, stromboli, taco, tuna melt, vegetable and white, with preparation instructions for stuffed, rolled or open-faced style. All the recipes in this book have been perfected, and all the details have been included so that even the most amateur pizza makers can get professional results. Not only does this book include proven recipes, it provides all the tools necessary to create your own masterpiece. I've tried too many recipes that show beautiful pictures of pizzas, but once created are displeasing to the palate. This book is for genuine pizza lovers who are willing to take the time to do-it-right. Creating pizzas can be as much fun as eating them!

We like to add pesto and lots of fresh veggies to our pizzas. Adding less cheese and more veggies makes it healthier and tastier. Thank you for reminding me of this delicious experience.

Pizza is probably the one time I go meat crazy but I love trying some of the less traditional stuff too--you have some great sounding things in the poll!

Yum. My favorite food ever. I've just started making my own, so this is a helpful lens.

Interesting fact: I've been to Italy, but grew up in New Jersey. And know what? The pizza is just as good in NJ as as it in Italia!
