Well, spring has arrived and everyone is starting up their spring cleaning, landscaping, and outdoor projects for 2008. This year, why not go the extra mile and make that first project something you, your family, and your friends can enjoy for years to come?

Recently, I decided to build a wet bar in my basement but I had no idea where to start. I had no building skills, no idea what materials I needed, and no way to know how to actually build the darn thing.

I ended up spending a great deal of time researching bar plans online and I decided to put my findings here on Squidoo to hopefully help someone else who is having the same trouble. The links I have included below are for the best online resources I found for everything needed to build the perfect home bar. I hope you find them helpful.

In order to build a home bar, you need basically 3 things:

1) Ambition
2) A Good Set of Plans
3) Some rudimentary carpentry skills

That's it. And, to be honest, if you have enough of ambition, and you start with the right plans, you can actually get by with little to know carpentry skills whatsoever. You've got the ambition...that's why you're here in the first place. Now, all you need is the right set of plans. This WILL make the difference between an extremely rewarding and an extremely frustrating (and quite possibly unfinished) home bar project.

As I listed above, I HIGHLY recommend Easy Home Bar Plans if you're building an indoor bar or TikiKev's Tiki Bar Plans if an outdoor tiki bar is more your style. Getting the right set of plans is going to make a world of difference. The Easy Home Bar Plans, for example, come with a complete Bill of Materials and shopping list / cut list that you can take right to the hardware store and have them pre-cut everything to exact specs before you even take it home. This takes 100% of the guesswork out of the process. Very cool.

Once you get all of your materials home, you should already have your workspace cleared out and your tools ready. If you didn't get your materials pre-cut, have a separate space set aside for making your cuts...it will be a LOT easier this way. Be sure to follow your plans step-by-step and the actual constructions should be a breeze. The satisfaction you get from finishing the project and drawing your first beer from the tap, or mixing your first cocktail behind YOUR very own home bar is worth every ounce of effort you put into building it.
