Here's my story. I've always wanted to learn how to build a successful internet business.
So I searched for a legitimate proven successful internet business I could do at home. It had to be easy, flexible, allowing me to use my creative gifts, allow me to be available to my family and worth my while in terms of time and money.
I'm a stay homeschool mom of 3 energetic and creative children ages 9, 7, and 5. Our homeschool curriculum is Language Learning & Web 2.0 based. For them to be successful on the internet they need to learn how to collaborate and problem solve. We want them to think like an entrepreneur.
I taught kindergarten and special education for 15 years, which I loved, but I wanted to be home to raise my kids and teach them to dream big. And to build our dreams, not some else's dream.

Imagine an idea for your dream business. What is your passion? What do you love to do, buy or how do you like to spend your time?
You will need an office. This is your headquarters. Be creative. I used a table in a spare bedroom when I got started. You will need office supplies too. See Links below.
You will need a good Computer and Printer. I like Dell.
Subscribe to a high speed internet service in your area. -
Search the internet for work at home businesses that match your dream.
Write down how much time you are willing and able to spend in your business.
Write down how much you are willing to invest as well as how much you want to earn.
Make a list of the tools you will need, business cards, labels, 3-ring binders, etc. - Narrow your search to 3 businesses. Compare and contrast them. What do they offer? Call references. If possible, visit the company and interview the owners. Interview your sponsor. Is he/she going to offer you the training and support you desire and will need in your business. Is this the right fit for you?

Is it a high quality product, one you will believe in and use?
Is it consumable, meaning it can be purchased over and over again?
Is the product exclusive and unique and not available to purchase at your local Walmart?
What is the level of Integrity in the company?
Is the company debt free?
Are they family oriented?
How is customer service?
What is their business mission statement?
How much success training do they offer?
Is there an adequate profit margin? -
You have made a commitment and decided to begin your journey as a home business owner. How exciting!

Start keeping track of ALL Expenses related to your business. Food, mileage, books, ETC. These are all tax deductable.
I use QUICKBOOKS to enter all my expenses.
When I do my own taxes, I use TURBO TAX PREMIER. It works great. Go to their business section and see what business items are deductible.
If you are not comfortable doing your own taxes, find an accountant with whom you are comfortable working. - You will need to develop a personal website. This will brand YOU on the web. When people are searching online they can find your work at home business, but more importantly they can find and get to know you. See links below.

- Hi there!
Your lens is really informative. It is so diverse yet it is packed with useful information that can be used by aspiring online entrepreneurs. I would recommend that they read the portion wherein you mentioned Roadmap to Internet Business Success. It contains useful tips that are easy to follow.
And I do agree with you that while we do love working (I for one like working) having a business to call our own is a huge achievement. It is imeprative tht we know the basics (which are mentioned here) to be able to be successful.
