Home carpet cleaning recipes

Make your own carpet cleaning products at home

Often, you'd rather not go through the costly process of getting your carpets professionally cleaned. You can go out and buy a home carpet-cleaning machine, but this might also be a costly option. The manufacturers of these carpet cleaning machines will recommend that you exclusively use their own branded chemicals which are overpriced and loaded with harsh chemicals.

There has to be a less expensive method.

Making your own cleaning products will enable you to slash the cost of cleaning up your carpeting, plus they keep your carpet looking new for a long time.

When working with cleaning chemicals, always make sure to test a small hidden area first so you can rest assured that this chemical isn't going to ruin your carpeting. (I can't stress how important this is) Carpets are made using many different processes and materials and you never know how your carpet will react to different cleaners.

Once a stain happens, take out as much of the offending substance before continuing. If the stain is wet, you should try patting it out with paper towelling ASAP. As soon as this is done, you can make use of one of the tricks that I've written here.

DIY Carpet Cleaning Chemicals

All-Use Carpeting Cleaner Solution:

We recommend common club soda for removing most stains. After soaking up the stain, just soak it using club soda and use a paper towel to pat it out.

Another useful recipe is to mix one cup of borax with two cups of baking soda. Once you've used napkins to clean up the mess, sprinkle the mixture onto the stain and grind it in. Just leave it there for a while before tidying up with your vacuum.

If you have a machine for cleaning carpets, try mixing some dishwashing liquid and vinegar. Take a cap full of each and mix in with a gallon of H2O. If you don't own a carpet cleaning machine, you can also load this into a spray bottle and apply it directly to the carpet.

To cleanse ink stains from carpet fibers

If you get ink on your carpet, you want to attempt to soak it up without smearing it into a larger area. Next, throw together some lemon juice and cream of tartar to make the ink disappear. Rub the mixture in carefully, but be sure not allow the ink to bleed into a larger stain. Once the ink has come loose, use a vacuum cleaner to take the mix out of your carpeting.

In order to clean blood marks from carpeting

Hydrogen peroxide is perfect for getting those blood stains out from delicate fabrics and carpets. Simply drench the peroxide on top of the blood stain and the hydrogen peroxide will make bubbles until the stain eventually vanishes. Finish off remaining mess clean using tapwater.

To lift out oil and grease from carpeting

Corn starch and baking soda come in quite handy with tough grease stains. Start by removing as much oil as possible with napkins. Now you need to either add corn starch or baking soda onto the stain. Once you've rubbed it in well, allow it to sit for about half a day so that this time allows for the oil to seep out of the carpet. and vacuum the leftover residue the next day.

Getting out pet messes and smells from your carpet

First, clean up the area. Then, blot up excess moisture with paper towels. Use dishwashing soap to clean the stain use a mix of warm water and vinegar to rinse before blotting with paper towels. Next, stack napkins on top of the stain then push down to remove excess wetness. Place something heavy on top, like a brick, and let sit until the next day.

Removing ashes from carpeting

In order to remove ashes, ashes or soot stains from your carpeting, jut put a bunch of salt into the problem area and allow to sit for 30 minutes before using a vacuum cleaner to pick it up.

This guide was compiled using with the generous help of expert cleaners like Toronto Cleaners and Philadelphia Cleaners. In absence of their assistance, this would not be written.
