The Base Recipe for Homemade Coffee Creamer

No Need to Add Sugar

There are two base recipes that you can use. Either one is tasty, but the second version allows you to have better control over the amount of sugar that is in your creamer.

This is a very straightforward recipe, but there are countless ways to vary it.

Homemade Coffee Creamer, Version 1
1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 cups milk (you can also use soy or rice milk if you need to avoid excessive lactose)

Mix the two ingredients together very well, either by whisking or by shaking in a tightly-lidded container. This mixture will keep in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Homemade Coffee Creamer, Version 2
3 cups half and half
sugar, to taste

Heat the half and half and sugar, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved. Do not bring to a boil. Chill, and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Next time you make coffee, there is no need to add cream and sugar. The creamer is pre-sweetened, so you're good to go with just a couple of splashes of your homemade coffee creamer!

Grind Your Beans with a Burr Grinder

If you intend to grind your own beans, a burr grinder is really the way to go. Even though they may cost a bit more, they more than earn their keep by offering a consistent grind. Unlike blade grinders, which can give you everything from dust to huge pieces of beans, the burrs crush the coffee beans to a consistent grind, depositing them in a handy hopper.

The Krups GVX2-12 Burr Grinder is a fine example of a burr grinder. Try it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the difference.

If You've Never Had Coffee From a French Press...

...You Don't Know What You're Missing

Coffee brewed in a French press has an amazing mouthfeel, unlike what you get from a traditional drip coffee maker or perkolator. If you haven't tried it before, I think you'll really appreciate the experience.

There are many French press coffee makers available, but the Frieling Stainless-Steel 35-Ounce French Press has double-wall construction, making it thermal and keeping your coffee hot longer. It's stylish looks can't be denied.

Treat yourself to the ritual of making a pot of coffee in your new Frieling Stainless-Steel 35-Ounce French Press.

The Chemex Coffee Maker

The Perfect Cup of Pour-Over Coffee

For those of you who like a smoother, brighter cup of coffee without any fine grounds in it, the Chemex just might be for you. Not only is it beautiful, it is a fully functional, low-tech method of making a perfect cup of coffee. You might not even need creamer!

Chemex Eight Cup Glass Coffee Maker with Glass Handle - 2-8 cup (40oz.) Coffee Maker

While a cup of coffee made with a French press is brimming with flavor and oils from the coffee beans, some people don't always want fine grounds in the bottom of their cup. And for those who think that coffee is too bitter, give a Chemex a spin. We own this same model, and it makes an excellent cup of coffee.

All you need to do for a bright, clear, clean cup of coffee with no bitterness at all is place a Chemex coffee filter in your Chemex, measure and boil the right amount of water, and grind your beans coarsely enough that you can pour the entire pot of boiling water over the grounds so it drips through in no more than four to six minutes. Any longer than that, and you'll start extracting bitter flavors.

It might take a couple of pots to get your coffee just right, but once you have it, you will enjoy one of the best, smoothest cups of coffee around. Seriously.

I have always loved sweetened condensed milk from the days when I used to use it in cheesecake recipes. So, I can't wait to make my own. Therefore, by passing the costly expense of $6 for two bottles of creamer.
