I think homemade costumes are the best!

Homemade Costumes vs Store Bought Costumes

It's one of the age old questions on which is better. Making your own homemade costume with love or buying a store bought costume. For me, the homemade costumes will always win in my book...unless of course they are falling apart at the seams and I'm about to see parts I shouldn't. Costumes bought in the store are cheaply made and look like all the others on the shelf. Homemade means you took the time to create them, normally with better material, lots of love and they'll be unique.

BuckHawk says:

My costumes always were homemade as a child. And then I made all my kids' costumes so I have to agree with you.

spirituality says:

Of course - given the choice I'd always go for homemade costumes. HOWEVER, I don't have a sowing machine...

emmalarkins says:

I like homemade costumes. It's easy to be creative, and you end up spending about the same amount of money. There are some places to buy decent costumes, though.

No way, Monkeybrain!

NikkiE2010 says:

If it's for the kids then homemade makes me feel like a real Mum, but they look awful, so the kids prefer the bought costumes.

fanfreluche says:

Homemade is much better, however I am just BAD at crafting things, so it will be store bought for me!

ZazzleEnchante says:

Store bought costumes are more fun! They bring about the character much better, and the small accessories most come with are absolute delight!

Thank you, this is my oldest two children, they were very proud of those outfits. This was my first year sewing anything, I was surprised it turned out as well as it did. ;)

I've tried on those polyester monstrosities (no pun intended) at the Halloween store, and they NEVER look as good on me as on the package. Plus I guess I'm just creative :)

I have made many of my own costumes and some for other people. Great lens.

Because I can do whatever I like with them. I can change up the ideas to suit just what I want to express with my costume.

Very cute idea for a duel. And I guess that makes me a monkey brain, cause I really enjoyed this.

Amazon Spotlight: Knight Costume

Jr. Knight with Hood, size 4/6

Amazon Price: $49.95 (as of 06/01/2012)Buy Now

Amazon Costumer Review: My son (3) loves this knight costume! The boots are a little too long for him still but we manage to roll them down and hope it will last a few years. The chain mail hood is very realistic but hard to keep in place. I would buy it again for any little boy into knights & costumes.
