Delicious Homemade French Fries Recipes
Learn how to make homemade French fries quick and easy.
The taste of homemade French fries is far superior to anything you will ever find in the frozen section of your grocery store and when they are this easy to make why not serve your family the very best?
Pound for pound, homemade French fries are easier on the budget too.
Homemade tastes better, they're cheaper, and they only take a few extra minutes to prepare.
Try some tonight! Once you do, you'll never go back to frozen.
How to: Homemade French Fries - Recipe
I haven't provided amounts here. You'll want to use one or two potatoes per serving depending on the size of your potatoes. You'll need 2 to 4 cups of oil depending on how many servings you are making.
Don't overcrowd your fries. Overcrowding will cause breakage and uneven cooking. To use less oil, prepare your French fries in several batches.
Ingredients
Potatoes
Vegetable Oil
Salt (optional)
Directions
*Peel and wash potatoes.
*Slice potatoes into 1/2 x 1/2 inch strips.
*Rinse or soak potato strips in water.
*Let dry (about 5 minutes)
*Drop potato strips into hot (375 degrees) Oil
*Fry until golden brown. (about 5 or 10 minutes)
*Remove from pot and drain on paper towels.
If you're using salt, sprinkle it now.
Serve immediately.

If your oil isn't hot enough, your fries may turn out soggy. Too hot and they may burn on the outside while remaining raw on the inside.

I like the new Burger King fries. Thicker...and the one by my house changes their oil frequently which makes them the only fast food fries I'll eat more than 2 or 3 of. Not too good for me anyways so that's okay. Tonight I'm making homemade fries with pulled pork sandwiches (also homemade). I was just looking to see if I should soak them first...the answer from here is YES- thanks!

I like to simply slice the potato thinly, rinse, dry, and cook in a frypan with a tiny bit of oil. Fantastic, crisp, and no messy oil to strain and store later.

I know this is odd, but I prefer krinkle cut frozen fries to homemade fries. And I'd just about rather have french fries than anything else. Given a choice between a steak and french fries, I think I'd choose the fries.

Few people would dispute the old Florentine proverb "Even a bedroom slipper tastes good when it's fried," but many try to stay away from deep-fried foods because of the at foods absorb during cooking.
When the technique has been mastered, however, deep-fried foods can -- and should -- be crisp, light, and delectably nongreasy. As fryers gain popularity, it's even easier to deep-fry at home, and now Phyllis Kohn shows you how to achieve flawless frying feats every time.
The Best Fryer Cookbook Ever delves into the hows and whys of deep-frying: the best (and potentially healthiest) oils to use, correct temperatures and frying times (shorter cooking ensures less greasiness), technical tips for using your deep fryer, and safety guidelines.

- it is called pommes frites in french. if you are really craving for french fries and there are no fresh potatoes around nor bagful of frozen sliced potatoes, run to the next mcdonald's, burger king or wendy's and order a large portion of fries to quench your craving. in the end, you also order the burger and drinks with it. bon appetit!

- I love to make homemade fries. I prefer to make them at home knowing what type of oil I am using instead of risking they were fried in peanut oil at fast food restaurants or general restaurants. I am allergic to peanut oil. Restaurants prefer to use peanut oil now these days because that oil is cheaper to buy in bulk than other types of oils. I have found I have been told no they do not use peanut oil and that not be the case when I had an allergic reaction later.
This recipe is so easy and they definitely taste better and healthier homemade! One of these days I will get myself a deep fryer as I know it is easier to use one instead of stove top method.

- I haven't made fries in years (decades?) because I don't want to buy a deep fryer (too dangerous to my figure) and that's the only way I've ever made them. I'll have to try the stove top method, though... No healthier, but enough effort that I don't think it will be a habit, when I could just toss the potatoes in a pan with some meat and let them roast.

- Not a bad recipe but the real way to make french fries (you know.. the french fries at restaurants that are unbelievably delicious and crisp) is as follows. Heat peanut oil to 375. Wash potatoes thoroughly and peel (or leave the peels on if you prefer). Cut potatoes into 1/4" x 1/4" thickness. Soak in cold water to prevent oxidation. Pat dry with towels. Fry in oil until you can break one by pressing it, this doesn't mean fry them until tender, the fries should still be undercooked in the center. After you've fried them, put them in the freezer or refrigerator until they've completely cooled. Now, fry them a second time until they are golden. They should be crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Sprinkle with salt and serve alongside some aoili or plain. NOT WITH KETCHUP.

- deep fry for a while, then, pull basket up and let drain, then place back into the oil for a few minutes. the outside gets crisp, while the inside becomes goooshie... [mmm] then, for a great flavor, put some Hormel Chili and some Nacho Cheese on them for an 'out of this world' taste sensation!

I'm kidding :)
When I was a kid, we never had anything but homemade fries. My mom always made them from scratch. Now that I'm an adult (or something like it), I never make my own fries. There's a "friterie" down the road that makes the best fries in the world.

I have been looking at a bunch of websites, food network, etc., and they all say to fry twice - once at the lower temp then again at a higher temp to crisp up.
