A great way to show someone that you really care about them is to give them a homemade greeting card.

The Benefits of Making Your Own Homemade Get Well Soon Cards

Anyone can just go in a shop and buy a get well card. Yes you might even take the time to choose one that would appeal the most to the recipient, but a homemade get well card shows that even more thought has gone into the get well soon sentiment.

You are creating a card from scratch, thinking about the person while you are creating it and end up with a unique card, which no-one will receive ever again! No more having to worry about getting the same card from a shop, especially if the person receiving the card has a particular love of owls, frogs, elephants, cars, sailing, or whatever it might be.

You can easily get into the fun of creating homemade cards for every occasion, as it is such an addictive hobby. It goes hand in hand with scrapbooking as the techniques are pretty much interwoven. People find it a very relaxing hobby, that is interesting as there are all sorts of different methods you can use to create unique cards and we will touch upon a few in this lens.

Making homemade cards is even more fun if you have kids, as then you can all sit around the table and create unique cards, chatting, and laughing together. If you don't have kids you can set up a homemade card making group with your friends. Then you can laugh, chat and create cards with them instead.

When you create cards yourself, there is no more having to worry about going to a shop at midnight, because you have to buy a card for someone. Instead you can get out your card making materials and create something unique and wonderful, wherever your imagination takes you in the wee hours.

A Handful of Get Well Card Making Techniques

Decoupage
Decoupage is where you can create 3 dimensional pictures, by using several layers of the same picture. You would cut out each layer (usually four of five) and position them carefully on the card, and then when they are in the right position you would use glue, sticky dots or double sided sticky foam pads to secure them in the right position.

Card Toppers
You can buy pre-made 'card toppers', which are decorations that you can buy in packets. They are designed to your card a 3D effect and are ideal for beginners, as they are self adhesive, so all you would have to do is place them artistically on the blank card. You would be able to buy 'get well soon' card toppers and all sorts of ones with themes like gardening, cars, flowers and butterflies

Embellishments
Card toppers are actually a kind of embellishment, but the term embellishment covers anything that you might stick onto the get well card like stickers, beads, ribbons, skeleton leaves, wire, scrap materials or whatever it might be that you decide to 'embellish' the card with.

Iris folding
Iris folding is a simple card making method where you fold strips of colored or patterned paper onto to a template, usually in a spiral pattern. This can look very professional and effective on blank cards with apertures (shape cut out usually in a rectangle or square). It gets its name from how the designs look like the iris of a camera.

Quilling
Quilling (also known as filigree) is a card making technique where you roll thin strips of paper in shapes like circles and petals. You then position these shapes onto the blank card to create a picture or scene. The term quilling comes from the fact that people used to roll the paper strips around goose quills.

Tea Bag Folding
Tea bag folding is basically Origami with little squares of paper, arranged into a larger design that results in stunning geometric patterns. The origin of tea bag folding is said to from a Dutch crafter who worked with decorative envelopes that contained fruit tea bags.

Homemade Get Well Card Conclusion

Why not send your homemade get well card with a bouquet of flowers or get well gift basket, that way you will really be going that extra mile to helping the recipient get better.

They will know that your thoughts and well wishes are with them every time they look at the card, smell the flowers, eat the goodies, or read the books that you sent. Nobody likes being ill, so it's nice to be spoiled a little bit.

Whether you send a get well gift or not, a homemade get well card will raise a smile from the recipient and the realization that people do care about them enough to spend a substantial amount of time creating a unique and wonderful homemade card for them.
