Homemade Hovercrafts

Hovercrafts! Remember seeing ads for homemade hovercrafts in the back of Boy's Life magazines as a kid? I saved up lawn mowing money for months to purchase those plans, only to find out my mom wouldn't let me take apart her vacuum cleaner, and that these homemade hovercrafts were powered by extension cords!

I never lost the desire to create a homemade hovercraft, and now that my son is old enough to get excited, I purchased some plans from Hovercraft Central two weeks ago. I found the instructions to be clear and well illustrated. The website says you can build a hovercraft in 12 hours, but it took us three days working on it on and off, over 4th of July weekend. We were able to purchase all parts locally and the cost for parts ended up being less than taking the family out to a restaurant.

You should have seen the look on our faces as we fired up this baby! Priceless! We haven't tried the homemade hovercraft on water yet, but that is coming this weekend and hopefully I can get some videos!
