Easy to make a safe noose to catch snakes for relocation to safe home!
Bullsnake or Rattlesnake?
Which Snake Is It?
Materials List
1 rubber ring from lid of 5 gallon bucket
8 feet of 12 gauge house wire
electrical, duct, or gorilla tape
Building your Noose

Push the wire through the PVC pipe. Wrap the wire around the O-ring.

Tape the wire to the O-ring to smooth out the wire, and to secure the ring so it won't tear.

For the handle, loop the other end of the wire, and make large wraps near the neck of the PVC. The idea is to NOT let the wire/loop connection to go past the end of the PVC. IF you loop the wire at the handle-end just right, it acts like a ''brake'' for the loop.

Snake Noose Handle Pulled to Capture Snake

Be VERY VERY VERY gentle when pulling the noose on the snake to avoid breaking ribs. REPEAT---just behind the head is VERY DELICATE and catching it here could kill or maim.... Ideally, get the noose at least a couple of inches behind the head; too close to the head and you may harm the snake, too far back and it can wiggle too much. HOWEVER, you will always be safe because of the length of the pole.
We put ours in a 5 gallon bucket or 10 gallon tall trash can.
Relocating Your Captured Snake
It is often said, do not move a snake more than a mile away; i suppose this is to ensure a food source. Ask around to the farmers and ranchers in your area, they often have pastures that are infested with rodents and need snakes to eat them up! Be sure it is a location far from homes, kids play areas, and dangerous roads and highways. We put our captured snakes in either a 5 gallon bucket or a trash can. When we get to the release spot, we simply remove the lid and put the bucket on it's side and stand back while the snake seeks out the yummy treats you have offered!!
