Soap Making DVD, Recipes and MORE!I will share a homemade soap recipe with you, called "Gardener's Friend". First, I would like to share the benefits and safety procedures of making this homemade soap. Those who have been in the soap making business understand the difference between goats milk soap and regular commercial soaps, but for beginners you might want to learn the difference.

Goat milk soap contains benefits of vitamins A,B, C, D, E and K within their ingredients. These natural vitamins are found within the goat's milk itself. Goat's milk is a buffer that keeps skin close to its natural pH level. It has moisture attracting properties and has anti-aging properties. It aids in the regeneration of collagen under the skin. Handmade experts confirm that goat's milk is the ingredient that makes the difference between regular handmade soap and a miraculous luxury item! Most commercial soap contain harsh, manufacured ingredients, that can cause all sorts of poor skin conditions including: acne, rashes, inflammation, allergic reactions, redness, burning, itching, dry skin and more. Why suffer? Instead, goats milk soap is extremely mild and gentle, cleansing, healthful, skin nourishing and more! Some claim goat milk soaps as the best homemade acne remedies around! These are just a few reasons why many people use goats milk soap.

Next, before working with a homemade soap recipe make sure you heed the WARNINGS:

1 - When working with essential oils know that they contain bioactive ingredients. This means they contain natural chemicals that interact with biological systems. They are potent chemicals and should be respected and used with care. Never use large amounts of essential oils externally, or internally. Never use them straight. They must always be diluted in carrier oil, or soap, lotion, or other buffering agent. Finally, never use essential oils without knowing what their bioactive compounds are known to do.

2 - When handling lye it can cause, extremely, burning pains if it contacts your skin. If you happen to get a lye burn, pour white vinegar on the burn to neutralize the lye. If you spill the lye, wipe the area with generous amounts of white vinegar to be sure all lye is neutralized. Wear protective gloves and goggles when working with lye.

3 - Never substitute oils in a soap recipe. Use the exact oil specified in the recipe. If you want to use different oils, the amount of lye will be different, too. This is due to the fact each oil has a specific saponification value. The saponification value specifies the number of lye molecules needed to turn a molecule of oil into soap. We want to leave just a few molecules of oil unsaponified so we know all the lye has been reacted with the oil. If there is extra lye left in the soap, it will be harsh and will actually damage your skin. Allow up to three weeks for soap to cure before anyone uses the soap.

HOMEMADE SOAP RECIPE:

"GARDENER'S FRIEND"- (Made for 50 oz oil recipe)

12 oz Corn oil

12 oz Coconut oil

8 oz Olive Oil

18 oz Lard

Between 6.9 and 7.1 oz lye

19 fluid ounces of milk (frozen - slightly thawed and broken into smallish chunks)

1/4 cup of dry grits, ground flax seed, poppy seeds, or coffee grounds (If you choose coffee grounds, you might want to substitute 1/2 the milk with strong coffee to get a coffee fragrance)

Add 2 oz of Lemongrass Fragrance oil or Lemon Myrtle Essential oil if you opt for grits, flax seed, or poppy seeds.

SOAP MOLD SIZE: Use a mold approx 12" X 11", ( inside dimensions will be about 1" deep), or a log mold 12"X 3.5"X 3" inside dimensions.

WARNING: Always add your solid form lye, sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, to the liquid. Adding liquid to the solid form lye can cause a violent reaction. This means you could have a "volcano" erupt out of your container.
