So why am I so convinced of the importance of a homemade wind generator?
I used to wonder if wind turbines were even that efficient so I began to study them more. The more I read the more I realized that my opinions on wind power were completely misguided and wrong. The power produced from even a small 1,000 watt wind turbine could provide enough power to provide electricity for a small home.
There are three great things about wind power that I want to point out.
1. Wind power is free.
There will always be an abundant supply of the wind at our disposal. And even if we don't harness its power, it will still be there day after day. And without a homemade wind generator pumping out electricity for all of our power needs, the wind is just blowing by, just like our opportunities to do something about it. Even when wind is blowing at just 7mph we can utilize it to make power.

2. Wind power is clean.
With all of the worries and concerns about polluting our environment, wind power is one source of energy that will always be clean. "Noise pollution" may be the only thing you have to worry about, however, as your homemade wind turbine may make a very low humming sound, but it is usually barely noticeable. It really is nice knowing that I am able to power my home and not put a single pollutant in the air because of my power consumption. I have plenty of power for all the appliances and lights so I don't even worry about running out of it.
3. Wind power is efficient.
And of course, efficiency translates into saving you more money every month. In fact, investing in wind generator energy will return profits to you faster than solar power will. The diameter of the homemade wind generator will have a big impact on its efficiency. So if you are wondering how much power a wind turbine can produce you can look at this chart below.

You will notice that a 10ft in diameter wind generator will produce about 2,500 Kilowatts a year if the wind speed average is 12mph. In some parts of the country this will be higher and some it will be lower.
The higher in the air you place your wind turbine the more wind it will catch as well, giving you better efficiency.

It's easier than you think...
A wind power generator is essentially made up of 4 different parts.
1. The Blades and Hub
2. The Body
3. The Tail
4. The Tower
The blades and hub assembly will take longer than all the rest of the parts of the turbine combined so it is important that you have good instructions to follow for your homemade wind generator.

GE has made a One Gigawatt Wind Generator
The wind turbine that GE has built is absolutely humonguous. It has already produced one gigawatts of electricity from its huge blades. This would provide enough power to provide electricity for 1 million homes in Germany where it is based. You may not be able to afford one of these huge turbines but at least you can see the potential that you have in making your own efficient wind generator in your backyard.

- I live in a very rural area and have built a diy wind turbine in my backyard. It's not overly big, but it generates enough power to cut my electric bills in half. Definitely worth it and I have already seen a return on the investment. If you can do it and have the room, go for it.
