How Does Green Tea Heal and Why?
Tea leaves contain an enzyme that causes the leaves to oxidize after picking. By steaming and heating the tea leaves this process of oxidation is stopped. (When left to the oxidation process and other man made processes, compounds called polyphenols, which are present in the freshly picked leaves are reduced and/or destroyed all together). Polyphenols are a group of natural phytochemicals or plant chemicals. These phytochemicals are potent antioxidants and antioxidants are the substances that protect the body from free radicals. Free radicals are the reactive molecules that damage the body at the cellular level which can cause cancer, heart disease and many other diseases. These compounds are the healing secret contained in the green tea leaves. If it is processed as little as possible, green tea will retain all of its polyphenols, and will contain the highest levels.
There are primarily four types of antioxidants, plus many other healing nutrients that are found in green tea. Vitamin C, which containing 10 times more than black teas, vitamin B2, vitamin D, vitamin K, carotenoids and beta-carotine.
Why does green tea have all these healing properties and black tea does not?
Black tea comes from the same plant but it is the processing that sets the two apart. Basically, black tea is allowed to oxidize and is submitted to even more possessing steps which, in turn, causes the polyphenols compounds,(present in the freshly picked leaves) to be reduced or destroyed all together. Hence the name black tea as this process turns the tea black, dark brown and sometimes even reddish in color.

And many others drinking green teas may not realize the reason they are feel so good.
