Homemade Mouthwash Recipes
Mouthwashes are used to freshen the breath or as an antibacterial wash or as a combination of both. We all have enough ingredients in our own homes to make perfectly effective mouthwashes that are quick and inexpensive to make.
Baking Soda Mouthwash
Ingredients2 ounces of Water
1/4 Teaspoon of baking soda
1 drop of Pure Peppermint Oil
1 drop of Tea Tree oil.
Directions
We'll start with the most basic of mouthwash ingredients, baking soda. Mix all ingreients together. The essential oils will give that fresh breath taste.
Rosemary Mint Mouthwash
Ingredients2 1/2 cups distilled or mineral water
1 tsp fresh mint leaves
1 tsp rosemary leaves
1 tsp anise seeds
Directions
Boil the water, add herbs and seeds, infuse for 20 minutes. Cool, strain and use as a gargle/mouthwash. If you wish to make up a larger quantity, double or triple the recipe then add 1 tsp of tincture of myrrh as a natural preservative.
Spearmint Mouthwash
Ingredients:6 ounces water
2 ounces vodka
4 teaspoons liquid glycerine
1 teaspoon aloe vera gel
10-15 drops Spearmint essential oil
Directions
Boil water and vodka, add glycerine and aloe vera gel. Remove from the heat, let cool slightly. Add spearmint oil, shake well. Pour into bottle, cap tightly.
Lemon Sage Brandy Mouthwash
Ingredients
A cup of brandy permeated with myrrh powder, thyme and sage.
A cup of purified water
Lemon juice (1 table spoon)
Directions
Start with the infusion. Take dried sage, myrrh powder and thyme and combine it with a cup of brandy, cover it tightly and let it remain for a period of 2 weeks.
After the infusion, strain, put in the water and shake until it blends. After that, take 2 tablespoons of the mixture and put it in a glass and add a few drops of lemon to it. Then put it in your mouth, gargle and spit out.

Warm water, 1 cup
Myrrh tincture, 1/2 teaspoon
Tea Tree Oil, a few drops
Peppermint or mint oil, a few drops
Directions
Mix all the ingredients and gargle.

Vodka Mint Mouthwash
Ingredients:4 oz. Water
4 oz. Vodka
4 teaspoons Liquid Glycerine

5 drops Myrrh

Boil the water and vodka then add the glycerine. Remove from the heat and let cool for 10 minutes. Add the essential oils and let cool for 1/2 hour and bottle.
This recipe makes a rather minty mouthwash but it is not as sweet or strong as commercially available mouthwashes.
Clove Mouthwash
Ingredients
1/4 cup rum or vodka or gin
1/2 cup distilled water
1/4 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon clove oil
Directions
Mix everything together and stir until the honey is dissolved.
Put some of the contents into a glass and rinse your mouth for 30 seconds.

½ teaspoon of glycerin
One tablespoon of calcium carbonate
A few drops of peppermint oil
1/8 cup of mineral water

Mix all ingredients well in mineral water. Heat and stir for about 5-10 minutes and after this leave for few minutes to cool. All ingredients in this mouthwash are very effective for getting healthy gum and fresh breathe.

Directions
Measure out honey into measuring cup. Add the essential oils, not exceeding 6 drops total. Mix well with the honey. Add a small amount of warm distilled water or herbal tea of sage to the honey until completely dissolved. Add the remaining amount of water. Bottle and label. Shake well before each use and swish for 30 to 60 seconds.

1 cup of boiling water
2 tsp of fresh lemon juice

Place the strawberry leaves in a ceramic bowl and pour the boiling water over them. Let sit until completely cool. Strain off the liquid and discard the leaves. Add the lemon juice and stir well. Store this mouthwash in the refrigerator. The strawberry leaves contain properties that make them an effective antibacterial agent.
