My Best Homemade Salsa Recipe- Is Your homemade salsa too watery?

Here is my best homemade salsa recipe that I've developed over many years of experimenting. Most of the store bought salsas don't have good flavor or are too watery and the salsa juice runs off the chip dripping all over. A coarse and thick consistency that is just right for dipping with chips and not dripping was what I was after and of course a great flavor as well. I use an average blender for the processing and an 8 quart pot for cooking the salsa in.

Best Homemade Salsa Recipe

* 4 Cans 14 oz. stewed or diced tomatoes

* 1 cup chopped fresh cilantro

* 1 yellow onion chopped

* 2 jars marinated veggies

* 2 tsps. lemon juice

* 2 cans chili peppers

* Combine and slowly blend being careful not to overblend

* It's best to combine 1 can tomatoes with one portion of the other ingredients at a time. Heat on medium low heat almost to a boil then remove from heat and allow to cool. Put cooled salsa in glass jars and keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

Use fresh Cilanto

Fresh Cilantro gives salsa a great flavor.

First chop cilantro before blending. Otherwise the stems will tangle around the blades causing a problem.

Save the extra Cilanto

Any extra cilantro can be saved in a ziplock bag and kep in the freezer for next time.

Chilies and Tomatoes

Mild or Hot?

Use 2 cans of mild chilies for mild or use jalepanos for hot and spicy salsa. Tomatoes must be stewed, whole or diced, look for flavored ones like Mexican.

Have you Tried Fire Roasted Flavor?

Fire Roasted tomatoes and chiles give salsa a chipotle flavor

Try using fire roasted tomatoes and chiles.

My Homemade Salsa is too runny- Try this

Marinated Vegetables give the coarse texture

The Marinated Vegetables are what gives my salsa the coarse texture that stands up on the chip. these are usually near the pickles and some stores may not have. I look for the "Hot Mix" but availability varies. They usually have cauliflower, carrots, pickles and peppers.

Be sure to drain all the liquid out of the marinated vegetables before adding to the blender. Some mixes have jalapenos which will need the stems removed first.

If you ever had problems with homemade salsa being too runny, this was my favorite solution.

Stir and heat the Salsa

Slowly bring the Salsa to almost a boil then remove heat.

    I'm always looking for a new salsa recipe to try--thanks! Tomatillos and roasted green chilis are two of my favorite things to add, and I agree that the fresh cilantro is essential!
