There are Advantages and Disadvantages to Homemade Solar Power
But one outweighs the other
Yes, there are disadvantages to solar power as many of you will find. One of these disadvantages is obvious: The sun isn't always shining. Nor is it always daytime. This is the one area where wind power generators can be good to add to your solar power system, since the wind can be constant at night as well as day.
Another disadvantage would be cloudy days or having your solar panels in the shade. This adversely affects the efficiency of your solar panels, even if only a small portion of the panels are in the shade. You obviously want your solar panels in constant sun for as long as possible.
But one of the nice advantages of solar power is that on those sunny days it can store enough energy in your batteries or through your power grid that it will more than compensate for itself when it is dark or cloudy outside. And unlike Wind turbines, they do not have to be hoisted very far in the air. They can fit nicely on your rooftop, out of the way, and last for more than 20 years.
But since the cost of solar panels is so high, the most efficient course cost wise is simply to make your own solar panel. This is actually not as hard as you may think when you have the proper instructions. Where do you get these instructions? The best detailed plans on building your own solar panels and all the things you will need are found at Easyhomesolarpower.com. This will explain more about the Earth4Energy plans that have revolutionized how solar panels are made at home.

Homemade Solar Power - How Hard Is It To Make?
Homemade solar power can be very easy to set-up, contrary to common belief, and it can save you a lot of money. A home improvement store will carry many of the things you will need for this homemade solar project and you will even find some things around the house to use.
The proper angling of your solar panels on your roof is vital to make sure you get the most out of them. With immovable solar panels on the roof you want to make sure they will face a direction where they will benefit from the most amount of sun. Even with a solar power kit, having the wrong angle of your home solar power panels can make your solar power system inefficient. facing south is a good direction for your solar panels to face if you happen to live above the equater. Shady areas are also important to avoid as it will cut down on your electricity produced. If even less than 1/10 of your solar panel is covered by shade, it will cut your system's efficiency by 50%.
If you want your solar kit to operate all throughout the year without any interruptions it will be advisable to check and see how often there is cloud cover in your area and try to have enough solar panels to make up for those times.
Batteries make up the mist vital part of the homemade solar power system. Without them you would only have power when the sun was shining, but batteries allow you to have continuous running power during the night and even days of cloudiness. One way around having to use costly batteries is to connect your system to the power grid, but this can be both complicated and frustrating. Even though batteries will have to be replaced eventually they will last for many years. The kind of battery to get is a deep-cycle battery. As batteries tend to loose capacity over time, deep-cycle batteries are less prone to do this and are the best option.
One item you cannot do without in my mind is a charge controller. This controller will make sure that your batteries are not drained all the way or filled up too much, which makes the batteries last longer.
Last Step of Your Homemade Solar Power Project
Build Your Own Solar Power
For the last step of your homemade solar power setup you will need a means of converting the DC to AC form of electricity. For this task you will have to have an inverter. There are a few electrical inverters that will not require a whole lot of wiring but some electrical experience would be beneficial. I highly recommend having a professional electrician help hook everything up for you and making sure it is all up to code.If you did everything properly you can have a DIY solar power grid that will give you the electricity you need for over twenty years. These 15-20 years will be spent saving a lot of money when you look at that period of time. It's better than having your own generator because even in the midst of a major storm or a big power outage in your community, you will still have all the electricity you need from your homemade solar power kit.
