Homeopathy vs Allopathy

Let's Debate!

Homeopathy vs Allopathy

For a long time now I have this opinion that HOMEOPATHY CURES YOU and ALLOPATHY FOOLS YOU. Since recently I have my very own experience that makes me stick to that argument.
By allopathy I mean "conventional" medicine as it is usually called. It's not an official term or something like that, but it fits just great in my headline here:-)
If you call it differently I don't care, as long as we think of the same thing - a medicine based on pharmacology and prescription drugs. I don't like drugs and I don't trust prescription types of doctors. I challenge you to speak up for yourself:

Which side are you on? Do you have any personal experience to backup your answer or is it just your general impression? Whichever it is, join me here and spice this debate up.

Homeopathy

HSSchulte says:

Homeopathic first and if it doesn't work allopathic. Many people don't understand (or want to know) the side-effects of conventional medicine.

tembrooke says:

I prefer natural remedies as the first course of action. I don't trust the pharmaceutical companies -- they put out drugs based on weak testing and they gouge consumers on price.

crosscreations says:

Always go with homeopathic or natural remedies first. Conventional medicine has a role, however I believe that in most cases drugs and surgery could have been avoided. Big pharma and MDs bent on surgical solutions to everything is WAY overdone.

ShandiGP says:

Lots of M.D.s and D.O.s practice homeopathy, too. Just because not enough data is available doesn't mean it doesn't work. I've used minimal homeopathic remedies myself but my allopathy OB/GYN tries natural remedies first--they usually work! Why? Because most things that go wrong with our bodies are essentially self-imposed from poor diet, lack of exercise, or being around toxic substances.

Tipi says:

I have always preferred to stay as natural as possible. Allopathic treatments seem to have massive side effects and thought they may have their place, going as natural as possible seems to be the most beneficial and we won't have to take something to counteract the affects of what we may take to treat an issue. Whew, I hope that makes sense!

shram says:

I choose homeopathic treatment. Homeopathy action is faster comparing to allopathy. It is cost effective. Homeopathic treatment require only very little medicine, unlike allopathy. Allopathy depends on surgery to the extent of 60 to 80% where as homeopathy depends to the extent o f 20%. By allopathic treatment we have to take large quantities of chemicals as medicine. Homeopathy medicines are prepared from natural substances and small quantity is required. Allopathy has side effects and homeopathy has no side effect if taken under proper guidance. .

nightcats says:

I have never used homeopathy per se, but I rely almost exclusively on energy healing and energy medicine. I turn to allopathic treatments as a last resort and they are rarely needed.

daria369 says:

I personally prefer anything natural to synthetic chemicals but don't have a problem with conventional medicine, practitioners or people who choose that path to cure themselves.

happynutritionist says:

I am just about to revisit alternatives...Homeopathy to be specific...I use medicinal herbs, but had someone who is going to help me determine the best homeopathic remedies for me when I'm ready. I've not needed any medications for many years, but have had a recent round of doctor visits to diagnose something...I don't mind the diagnostic tools and think that many of them are beneficial and necessary...but the meds...I decided to give them a try since it's been so many years and thought my body had changed, but I'm still so sensitive to them and need a patient doctor to get to the right one...hence I'd like to try Homeopathy.

Phillyfreeze69 says:

I would prefer Homeopathic Treatment because it is more natural. However, I do use Allopathic because of my company paid insurance plan. I am keenly aware of the side effects of some pharmacology derived drugs.

samsaradakini says:

I trust my body mechanics and my own research over a Doctor who takes kickbacks from Big Pharma. I am not necessarily anti-allopathy because it is has saved my life. BUT I start with homeopathy and alternative methods as well as mental readjustments.

I was so sick once, that 2 doctors had no idea what was wrong with me. Scared to give me an antiobiotic *and* not trusting what I was telling them, I was about 4 hours from death. A female doc finally got hold of me, gave me an anti-parasitic, an anti-viral and a broad spectrum antiobiotic to quell my imminent doom. When labs came back about a week later, E Coli was the culprit. SO... yes, there is a place for traditional medicine in my world.

But for the day to day health or typical bugs [flu, bronchitis, digestional issues, heart, arteries, kidneys, liver] my ratio is about 1 visit for maybe 6 visits a typical friend makes. I rarely get sick yet i often get fevers due to EBV. Last time I was at the doctor was in 2005 when I had E Coli from the story I shared above.

katiecolette says:

I always try homeopathic first as I think it's the best treatment option.

rog99 says:

Very interesting lens !

Tamara I have to give you thums up for that amazing article !

( My Choice) -
I have to go with Homeopathy because of my studies on Phytotherapy and alternative remedies. I like Allopathy also but I just know more on Homeopathy !

Keep up the good work Lensmaster friend,

karmicchristian says:

Natural remedies for me any day!

Swisstoons says:

I've had an interest in homeopathy for a little over 30 years and have used it successfully for a variety of problems during that time. People should understand, though, that improperly prescribed ultrahigh potencies can bring on serious problems. Well-trained classical homeopaths are very hard to find, and quack homeopaths who improperly prescribe 200x, 200c or higher potencies can do a great deal of harm. For self-dosing, best to stick with 6x potencies.

ajgodinho says:

I opt for natural medicine anytime. The Big Pharma is most all about Big Money. It focuses more on being reactive rather than proactive. Most of the conventional medicines have adverse side effects and have been the cause of many deaths. The body is natural and has to heal naturally by getting the proper nutrition. This is what should be the focus and if the government had to do something about it, they would be saving millions in health care expenses.

sgNgix says:

The body heals itself, and the placebo effect is full proof of this. In-fact, some scientists who have researched the sugar pill effect seem to think that just the thought of going to see a doctor is enough to trigger the healing process, such that by the time you do get to the doctor, well... the body has already done most of the work and the pill you get is just a sort of reinforcement.

ChrisDay says:

Sadly, science is looking at the wrong thing, when it discounts homeopathy as unscientific. Pharmacological drugs have a direct and demonstrable pharmacological effect in the body (and inevitable side-effects, too - the body's reaction). Homeopathy seeks no direct effect but attempts to heal or cure VIA the body's inevitable responses. These two different aims are like chalk and cheese and cannot be viewed under the same light or examined under the same scientific protocols.
As for the sub-molecular doses, I once lectured to boffins at AERE (Atomic Energy Research Establishment) in Harwell, who had no problem with the possibility that a medicine could have an effect in such dilutions. If scientists who mess about with sub-atomic particles and energy weren't worried, why should I be?
I use homeopathy as FIRST-LINE MEDICINE for me, my family and my patients, for serious and non-serious disease and have done so for a great many years. We have not found it wanting.

HSSchulte says:

I only learned about homeopathic methods when conventional methods were not working. Looking back I would always opt for homeopathic first and likely cure myself without the risky side effects of conventional medicine. Sometimes, it's necessary though.

sukkran says:

my choice is homeopathy. i never tried allopathy, so no comments. throughout my life time, i am using homeopathy and its keeps me fit. it cures me well. so my vote is for homeopahy.

Allopathy

gottaloveit says:

I've been a data manager for clinical trials for 20 years. I know the work that goes into prescription drugs and how hard we work to prove they work. I think that homeopathy has some merit but, when it comes to serious problems like cancers or aids, give me rx drugs all the way please.

aquarian_insight says:

I believe that the fact that allopathic treatments have come so far over the last few decades allows us the comfort to experiment with homeopathy etc. I have tried homeopathy - I hadn't done any research and had just been diagnosed with ME/CFS. I had never been ill before that and rather naively believed anything anyone suggested. It didn't help me. Is it Placebo effect? Is it something else? I can only speak from my own experience.

godinhora says:

Belief goes a long way, I'm afraid someone without a medical degree is like sending a private pilot into combat with a jet fighter...

noobeegin says:

Unfortunately, I do tend to utilize traditional medicine more often. That being said, I have embraced homeopathic methods and herbal medicines into my life over the past few years as well. I think that there is a need for both.

DinosaurEgg says:

The placebo effect is powerful and that in itself can be useful, but beyond that I'll go with science every time thankyou. If homeopathy worked then it would be scientifically proven and would become conventional medicine. Clearly that hasn't happened.

kab says:

For sure there are many things that homeopathy can do, but I am a science person. I have seen what wonderful things conventional medicine can do (that homeopathy could never have done).

MarkUpshaw says:

when the problem is acute, there is nothing like some mind altering experience of strong drugs and an MD in a white smock telling me that I will be OK. After all, most all of medicine natural or not is about allowing the body repair itself. And the first step in that is Belief.
However, for a cure, natural medicine is closest to bringing the individual back to some type of balance. The type of balance that Ketut explains to Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love. An excellent movie.

Arnica Montana is My Homeopathy Remedy No 1

For bruises, muscle aches, physical and emotional traumas

I simply love this remedy. I use it as a gel, as a cream and I also take pellets when suggested by my homeopath. I fell in love with Arnica after it solved some really unpleasant disorders I've been experiencing with my menstrual cycle soon after I gave birth to my second child. My periods were all upside down and painful like never before. After Arnica therapy it was ALL GONE. Things went back to being regular, without any problems ever again. Today I mostly use Arnica Montana as the only first aid response to sports like traumas like sprains and bruises, but also for the sudden low back pain. My both children use it too, mostly for treating bruises from their sports activities.

Doctors have tried for some 8 years to heal a pain in my foot (plantar faciitis). A natural remedy Rosehip Ultra has done it in a couple of months and also many other twinges and aches have disappeared. I am with homeopathy all the way. Great lens and featured on The Hideous Side of Diabetes

I also believe that both have their place but i firmly am on the side of rx drugs which are proven to work (and, yes, I've heard of thalidomide...). I'll still take my chances.

I believe they both have their place. First and foremost we ought to be caring for ourselves with good nutrition, natural whole foods, sleep, exercise, etc. Then natural cures are what God created for us to use. However, there are also times when drastic measure must be taken and without modern medications we'd be dead. Pursue natural, unless it's just not enough.

Though I have found that Allopathy gives the fastest and greatest care, it isn't without side effects. I haven't found Homeopathy too be effective in my case but I would suggest people find for themselves what works best. Allopathy has all the advantage of high tech, research and experiments whereas other therapies lack. I have faith in Ayurveda too.

This is an important topic because it seems like our society has become over-medicated and reliant on conventional medicine as they see it as a quick-fix. Healthy living should really be a lifestyle which will help people live healthy and happy lives, and thereby lessen the burden on the health care system as well. I don't understand why governments don't do much about it, but then again, they are hand-in-glove with the Big Pharma companies.

I think the exact same think myself every time I take my girls to their check up to our homeopath. Even worse, Croatia is I think the only European country where homeopathy is still far from being accepted as a health care option, although more and more doctors are visiting homeopaths on regular basis. How's that for a hypocrisy?! Thanks so much for stopping by, I always enjoy your comments :)
