Despite being a professional homeopath and having access to literally hundreds of different remedies, I still turn to a precious few of them over and over and over again. Certain ones are just so handy in all sorts of everyday emergencies, especially if you have children or pets in the house!The following are my recommendations for homeopathic remedies (and a few critical ones which are not strictly homeopathic) which I feel are of great importance and will be used the most often in most households. Every one on the list is easily purchased at your local health food store, homeopathic pharmacy, or online.

For bumps, brusies, muscle soreness, and injuries -
Hypericum perforatum 30c
For pain of the nerves -

For helping to speed healing of mouth and internal injuries. -
Calendula Gel
For Sunburn -
Calendula Ointment or Lotion
For open cuts and rashes -
Arnica Cream
For Sore Muscles -

Bach Rescue Remedy
Indispensible in stressfull situations for quick relief. The basic formula can be used for adults, children, and animals. -
Olive - Bach Flower Essence
This flower essence remedy is very useful for dealing with physical and mental fatigue. -
Prid's Homeopathic Drawing Salve
A great topical salve for boils and zits. Enough said. - Optique Eye Drops All-purpose eye drops that are SAFE to use for cleaning, wetting, and irritation.

Storage
Since most homeopathic remedies come in small jars or tubes, it's a good idea to buy a box to keep them in. I use a cheap, plastic, school pencil box with a handle. It fits right in my medicine cabinet by removing one of the shelves and is waterproof and portable.
If There's A Baby In The House
Remedies on my "Must-Have" list for babies, toddlers, and young children.
- Camilia Teething Drops These work like a charm not only for teething, but for general fussiness as well. The drops are MUCH easier to give a small baby than pills. I used to carry these with me in the car to help ease the "Carseat Cranks".
- Weleda Diaper Care The BEST diaper rash cream on the market today. It contains Calendula.
- Bach Cherry Plum Essence Ok, this one isn't really for the baby, but for the caretaker. If you're frustrated by a crying baby in the care or needing to deal with a colicky little one, Cherry Plum will really help you chill.
- Cocyntal Drops For Colic
- Hyland's Bumps and Bruises Tablets Kind of self-explainatory I think. I use this a lot.
- Hyland's Kids' Kit This kit is very affordable and has a nice selection of essentials, it was the first kit I purchased many years ago. It was well-used to say the least, plus, the booklet that comes with it is a nice introduction for using homeopathy.
- Hyland's Bedwetting Tablets - These work! Cured my daughter of nightly bedwetting when she was 6 and a half. The first night she took these was the first night she stayed dry ever. She only needed them nightly for a week.
Hyland's Kids' Kit
The Kids' Kit from Hyland's is a great "starter" kit for just about everyone, it has a small selection of multi-purpose basics, and is affordable (although, I think it's less expensive to get it online - it's usually about ten dollars more when I've seen it in stores).
What Is Homeopathy?
A VERY brief explaination!
The primary law of homeopathy is "similia similibus curentur", or simply put, "like cures like". Substances that can make you ill (or hyper, as in the case of coffee) can also cure you. Coffee is a stimulant, therefore if someone is over-stimulated, administering a homeopathic preparation of coffee will counter-act that.Think about how hyperactivity is treated in children with ADHD. Do doctors prescribe a sedative to calm them down? No, the ADHD medications, like Ritalin, are STIMULANTS. Yet, these stimulants actually counteract the hyperactivity.
To put it VERY simplistically, I like to explain it like this: A fly lands on your arm and it tickles. The fly has stimulated the nerve endings in your skin. So, what do you do? You scratch it. You apply MORE of the same stimulation which caused the itch in the first place, and the tickling sensation goes away. This is much like the action of homeopathic remedies - taking a substance which causes your symptoms only stronger, will "knock out" the symptoms you were suffering from. It overpowers them, and stimulates your body to mount a defense.

These kits are a great way to start off, but none of them are all-inclusive. You do save some money by buying them, though, if you plan on building up your home pharmacy.
Trouble Taking Pills?
One of the advantages of homeopathic remedies is that the pills are pleasant tasting and dissolve right in your mouth. The tasteless and odorless remedy is put on very small lactose sugar tablets and dissolve very quickly. They taste a bit like plain sugar.

- Absolutely disgraceful, promoting pseudo-scientific libidos. Homeopathic ?remedies? are nothing more than overpriced water, the proverbial snake oil. Its disturbing how these charlatans are able to remain in business.

- Very helpful lens! I am a big fan of natural foods, and suppliments. I believe it is because of this that we are uaually well, and rarely are sick. However, because of the HINI flu lately I have started looking into additional natural remedies to keep around the house. What is your opinion on oil of Oregano? I have read mixed reviews.
