Some of my ideas about remodeling

My ideas about remodeling your house for resale or improving your way of living, I even including some products for you to be comfortable around the house, or maybe save that furniture by repairing it.

Are you getting ready to sell, maybe you just want to improve your way of living.

Redo a room this year

If you are getting ready to sell a good way to improve the value of the house is to remodel a room. The two rooms that would make the biggest differences would be the kitchen and bathroom, of course these are the most expensive rooms in the house. The kitchen would be my choice to start with, I would do both if I could afford it. The kitchen usually sells the homemaker when purchasing, that doesn't mean to sell the rest of the house short. If the house is nice and you top it off with an exceptional kitchen then it should be an easy sale.
If I already had a nice layout then I wouldn't change it much, I would update the cabinets and appliances. You have to remember this has to be functional as well, make sure it is easy to use and move around in, and also has enough counter space. I would finish it off with a nice 12 by 12 tile floor, I believe the kitchen and bath should always have tile floors.
There are so many choices today with all the different cabinets and tiles, the appliances even give you choices. I highly recomend doing alot of research and looking around before laying it out, I even make 3 or 4 different lay outs and see the ways the kitchen can be used. If you like to cook alot you want to lay it out so you will be comfortable and have enough storage space. Look at the lay out and imagine yourself in there cooking, see if there is anything else you may need, make sure you have the room to get in and out of the oven. Make sure you can place the hot items coming out. If you prefer to drain your dishes instead of using a dishwasher, make sure you have the room to drain them or consider using a twin sink set up. Always plan ahead when you are doing something but with a kitchen, planning ahead makes the difference between a good kitchen and a great kitchen.
Make sure you have good lighting, I prefere highhats but always make sure you place then right. You want them out enough from the wall to clear the cabinets but not out too far to where you shadow yourself over what you are working on.

If you can't read a tape measure then I am going to suggest you call a professional contractor, if you can then chances are you work with one or with your hands.
I get a pleasure from working with my hands, when I look at something I completed it is very satisfying. But I am a perfectionist, I can see the littlest flaw or just knowing it's there will keep me awake. Because of this I know to start from the very beginning and do the work to a level that satisfies me, I will pick quality lumber or materials depending on the job. Then I prepere them properly for thier intended use, there is no corner cutting. I see the completed job in my head then I work towards it. The thing for me is not to rush, you make mistakes or get hurt when you rush. Take pride in what you do and it will show.

Don't let your money fly out the window

Winterize

Don't waste your hard earned money, winterize your house. Insulate the water heater, weatherstrip the doors and windows, maybe even cover the windows with plastic. Make sure the outside is chaulked well.

Home Remodeling as my Career

When its a job

I just recieved my contractors license, I enjoy working with my hands and do high quality work. Instead of working for someone else I figured I should make myself happy and do something I like. I get a satisfaction when I finish something and step back and look at it. I never realized there was so much to know when it comes to estimates and talking with potential customers, it's hard to give a price knowing it's good and getting a look like you are trying to get rich off of them. With the cost of material, then the price of gas, licensing and insurance, taxes. 27% of your profits go away for taxes and then you have everything else I mentioned to cover before you start to make money, then there is labor costs and if you bid wrong and it's very easy to do. You can end up working for nothing or losing money really fast, you can never plan for everything and it's even easier to get outbid. This has turned something I liked into a job, it is a good feeling when everything goes as planned and you make money. I am starting out and building my reputation so I take the extra step to give an incredible job and please the customer.

The economy is improving

Save your money

Things are getting better, the president is offering money towards first time buyers. Take advantage of this, some states even add to this as well. Jersey is one of them, this could add up to 10,000 or more and you need to think about this. If you were thinking of making a purchase then get all the benifits you can.
Our soldiers are coming home and that should help the economy as well, I hope our gas prices drop and stablize because we are out of Iraq and not shipping our fuel reserves over there, the least they could have done was fuel our vehicles over there while our young men died protecting them but thats for another lens because I have alot to say about us being there.
This is to inform people there is money out there to help with your purchase, to help with your down payment, get it.

To tile or not to tile.

Tile is always an improvement

I believe a ceramic tile improvement is well worth the cost, it's durability and ease to clean is the best choice for bathrooms and kitchens. Not to mention it's value in entryways and utility rooms. The increase in house value far exceeds the cost of installation, and the benifit of having tile floors while living there increases the value of life. I have not seen too many cases where I would not recommend a tile installation, I say go for it and enjoy. It's your world!!
