Homeschool Bible Study
Ranked #5,817 in Education, #136,304 overall
In our homeschool, the Bible is the most important book
We strive to make the Bible our foundational textbook, resource manual, and life-guide as a family. It is sometimes difficult to find the time to instill a deep desire for God's Word in our children. We want to make the Bible a priority in our lives and so we have sought out materials that will help us gain understanding, application, and grow in our faith.
Through the years I have found that doing Bible studies together at the dinner table and encouraging my kids in their own private devotions is the best way for us to accomplish that goal. We have used several different resources and materials over the years; some good and some not-so-good. The most helpful material does not distract from God's Word, but allows it to speak for itself and spends time analyzing it.

Inductive Bible Study for Kids
This series of Bible studies by Kay Arthur introduces kids to the inductive method of studying Scripture. Kids will find key themes, words, contrast, and contexts in one specific section of the Bible at a time. My oldest daughter has used these for several years and gleans so much from them. I especially recommend the studies through the book of John.

Integrating History and the Bible
Make sure to study the principles and themes behind the stories in the Bible and their significance on historical events. We want children to see the Bible as the unique story of God and not just another old text.
Some great homeschool authors have resources that combine Biblical and ancient history.

Do you combine Bible study with other subjects?
Their very own Bible
When our children were old enough to hold a book- they had a Bible. Starting with a good story Bible, both of our girls have progressed through several copies appropriate to their reading level. Having their own Bible at family and individual study times allows them to connect with Scripture and participate on a greater level than if they just sit and listen to Mom and Dad.Our personal favorites are the NIV Readers Bible which is written at a 2nd grade level and the Holman Christian Standard Bible for older children. Our favorite Story Bible is The Child's Story Bible by Catherine Vos.

Topical Bible Studies

Sometimes children have a specific question about the Bible. Many times in our family Bible time we have found it beneficial to study a single topic and discover what the whole counsel of God has to say about the subject.
Popular topics we have studies are:
Love
Friendship
The Holy Spirit
Money
You will find an adult study Bible, concordance, and other study tools very helpful.

The Names of God
A full-color guide for parents to teach early elementary children about God's character, as revealed in 26 names in the Bible. Each chapter ends with personal application and activities.
