Homeschooling is a lot of work for parents. The last thing you want to do is add more preparation time to your school day. Remember, however, that you do not have to make a huge production out of each math lesson in order to make it fun and interesting. Using a few fun props, like jelly beans, to count with can make the whole experience much more enjoyable. As an added bonus, if your child cooperates and tries their best to learn the lesson, he can eat the jelly beans as a reward afterward.

If you are unsatisfied with your current math curriculum, considering switching textbooks. Although some children learn well with a highly acclaimed math book, others will struggle with it. No two children think alike, so it's important to keep that in mind as you homeschool your children. What works for one child, may not work well for another. Assess the learning style of each child and order textbooks that compliment the individual child. Whatever books you chose, however, keep in mind that endless pages of numbers are just unappealing to children. Find books with pictures and fun game suggestions. If the math book you are using does not offer fun activities, supplement the lesson with other materials.
