Why I Homeschool.

Homeschooling is a wonderful option. There are many advantages to homeschooling. This lens goes over the advantages I found and how I got over the disadvantages.

I have five wonderful boys. My oldest son started having trouble in the public school system starting in the second grade. He suffers from a tic disorder which made the traditional school format difficult for him.

After struggling with the decision and many, many evenings of my wonderful, caring son crying and wondering why nobody would play with him at recess we decided to homeschool him.

Reasons to Homeschool

Parents choose homeschooling for many reasons. Some wish to instill certain values that they feel they will not get in traditional public schools while others wish to remove students from an unsafe public school environment and some feel that they are better equipped to provide a superior education. The most common reason for homeschooling is the well-founded belief that it is ultimately better for their child. Whatever your reason is there are many advantages to homeschooling. There are also many tools and resources that can help you overcome any obstacles that may arise.

Is Homeschooling Better?

'Better' can mean a variety of things, but it incorporates as many absences as it does positives. The absence of peer pressure or bullying are two prominent features of public school that many homeschooling parents want to remove from their child's life. But the positive aspect is equally important. The view that a better education can be gained by homeschooling over public or even standard private schools has been well studied.

There are many that have strong opinions for and/or against homeschooling and traditional schools. My personal belief is that there is no right or wrong answer. I have found that it is not necessarily which is better but which is better for my child. Children are unique and while homeschooling may be perfect for one child it may not be the solution for another, and visa versa. I am homeschooling one child and I have two others in our local public school. For now it is working out well for all of the children. If circumstances change we will certainly reconsider and evaluate our options. As long as you are doing what is best for your child then the option you chose is the "better" choice.

I like the simplicity of this lens. I am adding it to the featured lenses module on my own homeschooling lens.

Good idea homeschooling, instead of hild care centers, a child can be looked after at their home with a sitting teacher.
Don't go all out to get the best teacher, kid know what they are doing, and can benifit from a qualified sitter for advice during their homework.
A home teacher, even childcare centers can be expensive. A child would find it distracting bringing homework to a childcare center, but could still do the same thing there if careers offered the activity.
