Creating Your Lapbook Or Notebook

What will be your focus?

Some ideas:

Technology Advances

Major Battles
Key Figures
The Effects on France and England

What was the correlation between the Hundred Years War and the rise of nationalism in Europe? Did the technological advances and changing attitudes have any bearing on the Renaissance later? Why do you think France ultimately prevailed; did Joan of Arc play an important role in the victory or is she overly emphasized?

The Battle of Agincourt

Agincourt (or Azincourt in French) is one of the most famous battles in history. It was immortalized in William Shakespeare's play Henry V. Although some questions have been raised as to the story passed down from medieval historians in regard to the insurmountable odds the English faced, this battle nevertheless represented the rise of English and French nationalism. The great skill of the English longbowman and the sluggish, sinking French knights would prove to be a turning point in medieval warfare as well.

"Agincourt, Agincourt!

Know ye not Agincourt?

When English slew and hurt

All their French foemen?

With our pikes and bills brown

How the French were beat down,

Shot by our bowmen.

Some historians are doubting the Battle of Agincourt's status as perhaps the greatest military victory against overwhelming odds, while also drawing some modern comparisons.

Model The Battles

A great way to study famous battles is to set up a model! Use mini-figures and create topography, or use your imagination with playdough, legos, cardboard, or use markers and illustrate them!
