Get Organized with Index Cards

We all use index cards to organize our thoughts for papers and projects, but how about to organize your self, home, life, and school? I am a homeschooling mom of 7 years, and we have always used index cards to help us each day.

When my kids were younger, I used index cards to help teach them their colors, letters, shapes, and numbers. Now, we use them in lots of different ways. Both kids have their chore systems with index cards. My planner in my purse is created with index cards.

We have created several Handbooks that help keep school information organized for math, language, and art & music. Each subject is perfect for creating Handbooks, like a mini-notebook, so we keep adding more and more info to our index cards.

Index Cards--Not Just for Flashcards Anymore!

Index cards are great for creating flashcards, but did you know, they can be worth so much more?

My absolute favorite use for index cards in our homeschool is to create Handbooks. Each subject has an index card binder, where I can store each of the cards. Then I take index card dividers and hole punch them to create different categories. You can start with an alphabetical list, or use blank dividers and create your own. For instance, with our math handbooks, we can have categories for the different operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Then, I can place the "how to" cards in these sections. For instance, in the muliplication section, I would have the terms and definitions, such as factor and product. Then, I would also place the cards that discuss multiplication, as well as a card to show how to multiply multiple digit numbers.

The options are endless! I keep thinking of new ways to use these in our homeschool every day!
