Is there any glass that is low and unsecured? Walk around and take notes. Once you have completed your list, start trying to fix the problems that you found. Start on the little, inexpensive things and work your way up. Walk around the house at night as well. You have to get the same impression that an intruder would have if you are going to fix the security weaknesses.

If you want to fool a burglar into thinking that your not home, but a timer system. Allow your stereo or television and lights to come on at certain times, to make it appear that someone is always home. Also keep in mind that many home security burglar alarm systems today only cost a dollar per day. That's not bad. In addition, any time you have a security alarm in place it will lower your home insurance premium. Every little bit helps.

There are other options out there as well. You can get a backup battery system in case the intruder shuts off your power. It is always nice to have vibration sensors on windows as well so that the burglar cannot cut the glass out. Motion detectors are always great to have as well. Of course, nothing guarantees that you won't still get hit by a burglar. But having a good, solid home security alarm system is certainly a step in the right direction. Consider your options. Find an alarm system that will fit into your lifestyle and your budget. Make a choice that will bring you comfort and peace of mind knowing that you have taken measures that are necessary to protect your family and your home.
