Choice of superior honey bee
Characters of honey bee "offspring" which has superior quality:
- Has honeybee queens, they must have good physic and approximately three months to one year old age.
- Quantity and quality of egg produced by honeybee has more amount production.
- Harvest crop has more amount production, right for honey, bee pollen, royal jelly etc.
- Honeybee larva produced by honeybee queen is more fresh.
- Commonly, honeybee is more aggressive.
Reproduce of honeybee colony
To keep honeybee producing benefit optimally is that honeybee keeper must have minimal 100 honeybee colony boxes. Many steps below done to increase the amount of honeybee colony are:
- Keep honeybee at the location which food is fairly available. With this condition, honeybee queen will be more and more producing egg and worker bees also more and more make new hives.
- Prepare a candidate of honeybee queen which will be placed into the new colony.
- Separate colony, which has became solid and has been placed by new honeybee queen or another old honeybee queen, into a new colony box
Make a honeybee queen candidate
- Put a honeybee larva which has been hatched at least a day.
- Put inside a slice of royal jelly frame.
- Royal jelly frame which had been filled of honey bee larva is placed at bigger box, a box which has been filled minimal two level honeybee colony.
- Separate that box and honeybee queen, located in the bottom box. Royal jelly frame placed by old honeybee queen is placed at the above of box, so it cannot approach a honeybee queen candidate.
- Leave it as long as 11 days until honeybee queen candidate becomes cocoon.
- After 11 days, honeybee queen candidate is moved to the bee box filled a colony without honeybee queen.
- After 13 days, honeybee queen candidate will be out from cocoon and directly picked up to be a queen at that colony.
- Commonly, after a week, a bee queen is already to be "married",and developing a new bee colony that just has been placed.
Equipment and tool used to start honeybee keeping
- Honeybee box, a place for colony made of mahogany wood.
- Smoke-maker equipment used to docile an aggressive bee.
- A masker used to protect your body from honeybee attack.
- Crowbar.
- Brush.
- Frame, made of wood and at the center of it is given wires as a holder for honeybee hives.
- Pollen trap used to crop bee pollen.
- Royal jelly frame used to crop royal jelly and make a new honeybee queen candidate.
- Extractor used to crop honey.
