In the news: Good news for us! A University of Montana researcher thinks he has isolated what's causing the drastic decline in honey bee populations, commonly called colony collapse disorder ~ a combination of a parasite and a unique virus. Apparently, bees can tolerate either alone but when they occur together, it is deadly for honey bees. The researcher thinks that treating the fungal parasite is the answer. There is no known treatment for the virus at this time.

- Honey is indeed a medicine. Honey's antibacterial properties can bring good intestinal health and soothe sore throats and cough. Honey also provides a healthy energy source so I can see why honey stinger energy bars would be a great energy snack choice.

- I always love to learn about energy bars - never heard of this one before (perhaps being in Canada is why). Oh and thank you for updating me about the declining honey bee populations - I've been curious since I heard it may have something to do with other types of bees. This parasite and unique virus identified from a University of Montana researcher - do you happen to know this researcher's name? (I'll look for it, though). - Cool- A carefully selected package or two of these would be a great addition to your emergency supply kit. I haven't looked at the ingredients of all of them yet, but think there might be also some that would be suitable for diabetics. So, I've made this one of the 'discovery' lenses on my sugar free gift baskets lens.

North Dakota Ranch Cookies by Shantel Jangula
Recipe For Miller's Honey Farms
1/2 cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 cup All-purpose Flour
1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
! cup Quick Oatmeal (raw)
1 cup Light Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Butter
1/2 cup peanut Butter
1/4 cup HONEY
2 Eggs
2 tsp. Vanilla
1 cup Raisins
3/4 cup Sunflower seeds (raw)
* Preheat oven to 300 degrees
* In medium bowl, whisk together flours, baking powder and oatmeal. Set Aside.
* In large bowl,beat sugar and butter at a meium speed to a grainy paste.
* Add the peanut butter, HONEY, eggs and vanilla to butter mixer and mix well.
* Add the flour mixture, raisins and sunflower seedsto the mixture.
* Blend at low speed until thoroughly mixed.
* Drop by rounded tablespoons on greased cookies sheet, or lined with parchment paper.
* Spread cookies at least 2 inches apart.
* Bake for 20-25 minutes until bottoms turn golden brown. Then tranfer cookies to a cool surface immediately. ** You can substitute the raisins with chocolate chips.

Ingredients
2 - 27 oz. Jars of Orange Drink (Tang)
12 oz. Lemonade dry mix (like Countrytime)
1 cup Instant Tea
2 cups Sugar
1 teaspoon Cloves
2 teaspoon Cinnamon
Instructions
Mix ingredients together. Add 2 teaspoons of tea mix to 1 cup of hot water for one lovely cup of hot tea. A mug will require approx. 3 teaspoons of tea to make a tasty cup of tea.
Store in an air-tight container
