At first it was called Hog Island, today it is home to Honeymoon Island State Park, a great romantic West Florida beach for lovers of all ages. Easy to get to, Honeymoon Island is just over the Dunedin Causeway from the Florida mainland. A great place for lovers to surf, kayak, and hike along the Osprey Trail.

Honeymoon Island, Florida
Originally Called Hog Island, that all changed in 1939 when a New York developer built 50 cozy bungalows there, and Honeymoon Island was born. Nowadays it's an easy drive from the city of Dunedin, Florida, across Florida State Road 586, better known as the Dunedin Causeway.
At the extreme west end of Honeymoon Island is the namesake Florida State Park. Lovers can swim, snorkel, fish, and surf here. There is a snack bar and concession stand, renting kayaks plus beach umbrellas and chairs. Picnic tables and showers are available along the 4 miles of shoreline at Honeymoon Island State Park, with a pet beach at the south end.
Kayakers can explore Pelican Cove, and surfing is popular around the north end. The Ospray Trail runs over 2 miles through Honeymoon Island, through native slash pine holding osprey nests. Mangrove swamps and tidal flats support many Florida birds and fish.
Shell collectors have a good time here, as the Gulf current brings a variety of shells ashore, Rotary Centennial Nature Center displays exhibits covering the history of Honeymoon and Caladesi islands. Near the nature center are two covered picnic areas, ideal for Honeymoon Island weddings.
