Hong Bao Ball

This lens show you how to make a ball from 30 hong baos. The steps are similar to Red Packet Oval Ball lens and it need more hong baos. The ball can turn out to be quiet big if you use a normal size hong baos. I have use a smaller hong bao in this lens because I do not want a big ball.

You will need:
1) 30 rectangular hong baos of the same design and size.
2) Adhesive.
3) A stapler.
4) 2 golden strings.
5) a pair of scissors
6) an extra hong bao for the bottom decoration. You can use a different size and design hong bao.

Buy your Hong Baos on eBay

or call them Chinese New Year red packets if you want.

If you are having trouble getting hong baos in your area, get them in ebay. Make sure you get more than enough hong baos so that you will not to short of them if you make mistakes.

Instruction

  1. First of all, make sure all 30 hong baos were sealed. Some hong baos came with self adhesive, some don't. For those that do not have self adhesive, use some glue to seal off the hong baos.

  2. Make a marking on all side of the hong bao as shown in the pictures below. Do that for all the 30 hong baos.

  3. Fold all 30 hong baos as shown in the picture.

  4. Stapler 2 hong baos together as shown in the picture. Make sure you stapler along the folded line.

  5. Continue from the above, stapler another 3 more hong baos together to make 5 hong baos as shown in the picture. Leave an opening un-stapler so that we can put the string in.

  6. Tape a string for hanging inside the hong bao as shown in the first picture. Close the hong baos by staplering the last 2 hong baos together. You should get something like what you see in the second picture. We will call this the "top set".

  7. Use another 5 hong baos, repeat step 4 to 6 for the bottom of the ball. Tape the bottom decoration to the inside of the hong baos. You can see the instruction for making the bottom decoration here. We will call this the "bottom set".

  8. Now here is the tricky part. Stapler a "side" hong bao to the top set all around. It should take up 5 hong baos. Next, you should form another set of 5 hong baos at the side by staplering another 2 hong baos. (1 hong bao from the top set, 2 from the "side" and you add another 2 hong baos) I have use a circle in the picture where you should form a 5 hong baos set.

  9. After you have done everything in step 8, add in the side hong baos. You should get something as shown in the picture.

  10. Stapler the bottom set of the hong baos to the whole thing. You should get something as shown in the picture.

  11. Flip the corners of the hong baos, stapler the 2 corners together as shown in the picture. Do it for all the corners of the ball.

  12. The hong bao ball is completed. You can add flowers decorations to the ball if you like.
