Everything You Didn't Know About Hoosiers... The Best Basketball Movie Ever!

Hoosiers was shown in the big theaters in 1986 and even though it is an oldie... it is definitely a goody as I will explain!

First of all, the cast for this movie was just simply outstanding... Gene Hachman, Barara Hersey, Dennis Hopper and all the young men who played on the basketball team.

And what made this movie set in 1950s Indiana so good? It was based on the times when Indiana High Schools played in one big tournament for the state championship... regardless of size of the schools.

Yeah, I know, I know... that was totally unfair because the larger high schools usually had more choices to pick out the strongest, tallest and most gifted basketball players...

Hoosiers
(2-Disc Collector's Edition)

And the team in Hoosiers? Only the minimum showed up for initial practice and two quit that day. Yikes! We will chalk that up to personality conflict between the new coach, Norman Dale and the boys.

One came back afterward with his Dad and an apology...

But enough about that! I actually had a chance to talk to an old farmer from Indiana who was out visiting my best friend a few weeks ago... and I asked him if he remembered the team that the movie, Hoosiers was loosely based on...

I didn't mention it? Oh YEAH! That small high school won the Indiana High School Championship in 1954! It really did happen!

Good times indeed... and if you haven't watched a local high school basketball game... you should! Not only you are supporting the kids... you are seeing basketball played in the fundamental way without the polish and glitter of big time college or professional basketball games.

My Favorite Quotes from Hoosiers...

Not only Hoosiers had drama and great action... there were several lines in the movie that was just awesome... as an inspiration and for tongue-in-cheek humor.

You can laugh.. and you can cry (it's OK for guys to cry watching sports movies but never, ever cry watching "chick flicks!")

Just kiddin'!

I Love Watching the Kids Play Hard Every Game!

Joan4 says:

I love all high school sports, especially basketball!

MattTaylor says:

To me... high school basketball is played at a more innocent level... where the kids don't play for millions of dollars. They play for idealistic reasons... to play the game the best way they can...

Aw... High School Basketball is Boring! I Prefer College or Professional Basketball...

One of My Favorite Scene in the Hoosier Movie...

This scene is in the locker room. Coach Norman Dale gives a speech to his kids the regional finals. Good stuff!

But Matt... My Girl Absolutely Hates Sports!!!

And Now You Want Me to Ask Her if She Wants to Watch Hoosiers? Are You Nuts?

First of all, quit whining... it is unmanly...

Second of all, there is ROMANCING in this movie!

Hoosiers
(2-Disc Collector's Edition)

Oh yeah, here is a spoiler for ya... Barbara Hershey is Coach Normal Dale's love interest!

You know what this means, don't you? And that goes for any other guy who wants to watch a sports movie but can't... because his girl doesn't like sports.

Now, you can tell your sweetie that this is a sports/chick flick...

She won't believe ya of course... but I bet she will be intrigued. And a little mystery in your relationship is always a good thing, right?

So big tip guys...

GET HOOSIERS RIGHT NOW or you will really regret it because who knows... you might get hit by a bus tomorrow and miss out the greatest sports movie ever!

And that my friend, is the worst thing that can happen to you!
