Sly Stallone aka Rambo and the bridge from the set of First Blood in Beautiful Hope, BC

Apparently Sylvester Stallone's people called the town of Hope, inquiring about potentially buying the old bridge over the Coquihalla River where some of the memorable scenes of the blockbuster movie First Blood were filmed. Perhaps Stallone, aka Rambo, was feeling sentimental about revisiting what was in his words, "the best action movie ever made". Visit the set of the movie First Blood where it was filmed in beautiful Hope, BC. Hope is also the home to world famous chain saw wood carvings that are situated throughout the town, and the annual logger sports at Hope Brigade Days.

*Update: when I spoke with the Mayor of Hope at the time, I was informed that due to reasons untold, Sylvester Stallone will not be purchasing the Coquihalla Bridge. It still makes for an interesting story though, including a blue moose and some bagpipes- read on to find out more about the movie set of First Blood, and the current goings on in the town of Hope.

Hi Darcie--I had to vote "My town's got better bridges" because, of course WE have "the world famous Y-Bridge". Wonder if Sly Stallone would like to buy it.... :-)

I'm from Victoria, and lived in Kelowna for quite a few years, so am quite familiar with Hope.

I grew up in Beautiful Hope, BC and saw many scenes of the movie being filmed -:) Was in grade five I think. Hope is an incredibly beautiful place- not enough people know about it. I think Sly wanted to buy the bridge to help support the people of Hope, actually. From watching the video he seemed to see the beauty of the place and at the same time recognize the frustration of the people then. It's not depressing anymore- it's full of wood carvings displays by local artists for example- seems those angry loggers got to good work -:)

people seem to forget that if it wasn't for Rambo (First Blood) and Roadhouse (Patrick Swayze) BC wouldn't even be the "Hollywood North" people come to expect. it was the 5 major blockbusters of the time that put BC on the map.... the smartest thing they can do is keep it as a tourist attraction. Hell most Out-of-Town'ers that come through I will show them locations some of their favorite movies were filmed.... it's irresponsible to remove a KEY scene from out country's "Movie Heritage" all because they either think it's an eye sore, or no one will use it..... I'd rather it be used as a walking bridge then to be scrapped....
