Hopedot VOS
Hopedot VOS allows you to create a 'Virtual' environment of Windows, install all your programs and carry them around with you. Hopedot VOS can be installed on both PC hard drives and any removable storage device. By encapsulating all your desktop and applications in a USB stick, you can have access to your own desktop and favorite programs at any time and anywhere by simply plugging your drive into a PC and starting the software, and instantly you are presented with your own desktop and programs.
Introduction - Hopedot VOS
The really is smart thing about Hopedot VOS is that whatever you do within your portable version of Windows, it remains totally isolated from the original host computer, neither affecting its operations, nor leaving any trace. You simply do whatever you want on Hopedot VOS and then when you finish your tasks, close the Hopedot VOS, and your computer returns to its original state, no trace will be left on that computer at all.
Also, running Hopedot VOS on other PCs doesn't require Administrator rights, which means it will work with not only PC of your own in homes, but also public PCs in libraries, campuses, offices, Net-cafes where you may only use computers under a non-administrator identity.
Of course, Hopedot VOS is far from perfect. For example, for some applications that are tied to the hard drives, you may not be able to install and run it normally. Also, due to the complexity of different PC environment and settings, some strange errors may occur on some computers.

Install Hopedot VOS
First, you need to download Hopedot VOS installer from its official website. The file is a small-sized file with less than 7 MB. Click the exe file and then you will be asked to select a language, and then select a disk drive to have Hopedot installed, the selections will include both local hard disk drives (except drive C) and your removable storage devices if there is any plugged. In a few seconds, installation will be finished. After that, you will see a login window, and then you can register a user name to login. Alternatively, you can skip the step and select user trial to start directly. Hopedot has an interface similar to Window desktop. The only difference is that there is a toolbar on the top of screen, from which, you can make Hopedot settings, switch between Hopedot virtual system and local system etc. The default Hopedot VOS desktop icons include My Computer, My Documents, Recycle Bin and Internet explorer.
Use Hopedot VOS
If you install Hopedot VOS on a USB flash drive, then you need to plug it into any Windows running PC, and then click the program to run it; if you install it on your local hard disk drive, you just click the program to run it. When you first use Hopedot VOS, there is only a built-in Internet Explorer you can use and except that, you can nearly do nothing, because it is a complete new virtualized system and you need to install programs. To install programs on Hopedot VOS is very easy. It is just the same as you do on Windows operating system. You can browse My Computer under Hopedot VOS and find installation file of any program you want to install, and then click to install and it will be installed on Hopedot VOS in a few seconds or minutes depending on the size of the program. To uninstall the programs is still the same as you do on Windows OS, you can go to Start Menu - Control Panel - Add & Remove Programs to uninstall the programs.
When running Hopedot VOS, you can easily copy files between Hopedot VOS and your local system. This is why you can browse the local disk drive and find the program to directly install on your Hopedot VOS. Hopedot VOS also allows you to set your own desktop wallpaper so that it will not be that boring when you use it every time.
While running programs in your Hopedot VOS, your host PC is running in the background. The antivirus, anti spy ware, firewall, and other programs on the host all continue to run. The Hopedot VOS is protected by the security programs running on the host PC so there is no need to install security programs again in your Hopedot VOS. If your anti spy ware program pops up a warning on the host PC while you're working in the Hopedot VOS, a notification warning will popup from the bottom on the VOS. Your VOS will have access to all of your host PC's resources, except for hard drives installed in the host PC. You can see and use CD and DVD drives, USB connected drives, flash drives, printers, internet connection, and just about everything else.
Though Hopedot VOS runs under a Windows OS, but it is an independent system on its own. All your traces under VOS will not be left on your local Window OS, and your bookmarks, favorites, settings etc under it will be saved. So where does it store all these programs? And where are your performing records stored? Well, you can go to the disk drive you installed Hopedot VOS, and then find HopeodtVOS folder - Software - programs to see all your installed programs.
The Hopedot desktop has a toolbar across the top of the screen. In the middle of the toolbar there is a button that allows you to switch between the local system and Hopedot VOS. You'll need to do this when you perform different tasks under two systems simultaneously, or when you want to check on notifications from your host PC, anti spy ware warnings etc.
I try out a few software applications and games. For the most part, I install these on my Hopedot VOS, which minimizes any problems these programs might cause to my desktop. Hopedot also makes it easy to let other members of my family try out these new applications. I've download about 50 applications and games over the past 3 months. I've had about a 90% success rate running these programs under Hopedot VOS. I'm currently playing Heroes of Might and Magic V from a Hopedot VOS. Other games that have been reported to work include Age of Empires 3, Obsidian, the Sims games, World of Warcraft and more. On my system, with Hopedot installed on a 60gb 5400 rpm USB drive, I find that applications and games run on a Hopedot VOS run as fast as they do on my desktop. So if you are going to run programs off a USB flash drive, make sure that you use a high speed one. I ran the Aquamark 3 benchmark on my desktop and my Hopedot VOS, and got an almost identical rating on each 68,200 for my desktop, vs 67,200 on the Hopedot VOS. That's really impressive.
Most mainstream programs also work well on Hopedot VOS. For example, I have installed the full version of Nero 10 suite on my USB drive and it works very well for me. Others like Skype, Quicken, FireFox, Opera, Chrome, AIM, Quicktime, PowerDVD, even MS Office all work very well. But I also found a few that can not work on it, such as Virtual Studio, 3D Max, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw etc.

Why use Hopedot VOS
The first I can think of is the advantage of its mobility. As you can install Hopedot VOS on a USB flash drive, that means you can easily carry your own desktop and applications with a USB flash drive and then you can plug the drive into any PC and use it anywhere. This is really good for people who need to work or play in different places or computers frequently. You may suggest alternatives like laptops or "The cloud concept", but a laptop proofs a great burden if you have to carry it everywhere, and "clould" requires an Internet access to work.
Another feature of Hopedot VOS is that it is independent from the local system so that whatever you do within the Hopedot VOS will have nothing to do with the local OS. Hopedot VOS will write registries into its own but not the local system so that no inter-infection will occur between Hopedot VOS and local system nor traces will be left on the local system. In this way, you local system can be protected to the maximum. This is great when you need to try or test new programs, or when you are browsing the Internet.
One more use for Hopedot VOS that comes to my mind is that it would prevent people from destroy your system or data of your computer, which is especially true if more than one people share one computer. You just install Hopedot VOS on your computer and every time other people use your computer on Hopedot VOS, any changes they make will be within Hopedot VOS and you don't have to worry about losing your data or corrupting your system and you leave your machine clean and unaffected.

Summary - Hopedot VOS
Hopedot VOS, in my opinion, is a very promising product, and it supports the majority of software out there. Many programs will run, and run well, on a Hopedot VOS. Though there are a few that it does not support. I think for your personal use, it is enough. The program is good for you to try out new programs while avoiding risking malicious programs or adding too much redundant files to your local system. However, further work should be worked on the stability because on some computers or system I find Hopedot VOS can not run normally, showing messages that Hopedot VOS can not create a virtual environment. Besides, it is a pity that it now doesn't support 64 bit Windows OS. Also, after contacting Hopedot VOS team, they reveal that they will give full support on some professional software like Virtual Studio, 3D Max, Illustrator, CorelDraw etc, however, it will be rolling out as a professional version which is a little different from the current version for personal use.
