Hope Emporium

A new and exciting shop opened today, 22nd August 2009, in Broad Street, Bromyard, Herefordshire. "The HOPE Emporium" sells contemporary crafts, decorative items, local photography and cards at affordable prices. All the products stocked will be handmade and produced by local people.

"The HOPE Emporium" is the brain child of Sheenagh Davis centre manager off the HOPE Family centre in her quest to support local mums back into the workplace. On hearing that 2 of the regular mums at the centre were getting creative and making crafts she was keen to find out more. Jane Rocca and Jo Williams both have 2 children and want to use their talents to work locally in a job that fits in with family life.

Jane and Jo have been busy revamping the shop whilst their children are at school and the HOPE playgroup and they have also enrolled on the centres Web Design Course. They both hope to have a website soon and plan to do more business related courses at HOPE in the future.

"Plain Jane Textiles" by Jane Rocca is a collection of original hand sewn items for the home and children. The range includes aprons, tea cosies, cushions, door stops and kids bags in a great range of colours.

"Muddy Puddle Crafts" by Jo Williams is a range of unique handpainted decorative items for children, grown ups and the home. The shabby chic inspired products range from pegs to plaques and blackboards to decorated boxes.

Other handmade products for the shop so far include cards, handbags, jewellery, soaps and bath melts, and photography. To complement the shops shabby chic interior it will also sell donated vintage collectables offering the customer a bit of chic nostalgia for the home.

The grand opening is the weekend of August 21st when the shop will then open every Thursday and Friday 10-3pm and every Saturday 10-4pm.

Come and have a look around when you are next in town!

Heavenly Soaps and Hope Emporium

The idea of a group of women all supporting each other in a venture like this was very appealing, almost as attractive as the way Jo and Jane have designed the shop. It really is beautifully turned out, and the bespoke Oak wood shelves (made and fitted by Janes husband I believe) are absolutely exquisite, and show off our handmade items perfectly!

I was more than happy to rent space here, the only problem I had was choosing between the beautiful shelves and a gorgeous wood dressing table with bench seat...in the end I had to choose the shelves because they are so beautifully made.

Janes Hand Sewn Crafts (and that gorgeous dressing table!)

It won't surprise anyone that the first thing we did when we visited the shop with a view to renting space was to buy 2 of Janes hand sewn aprons. My friend Jude, who does Teme Valley Market with me, wouldn't let us leave until the order was in for "Soap" aprons. You can see from this photograph why. Her hand sewn items are beautiful, the stitching is amazing, and the designs so attractive. We chose the colours we wanted, and a double pocket (very useful at market!) and might even take a picture of us wearing them at the next one so you can see how lovely they look.

Really stunning cards in fact, especially when you need something a bit special to say Happy Birthday, Thank You, or just send a card to a friend to say Hello! While we visited the two friends I took could not resist buying a card or two, one for a very special Wedding. Truth to tell, I can never resist these cards!
