Made in Japan Garden Knife

I discovered this garden knife last year and asked for it as a gift for Christmas time. I did receive it, but I became intimidated the minute I took it out of the sheath. I imagined I would deeply cut myself with it.

Being the dead of winter I did not look at it again till March when I did some garden work. I wanted to do some weeding around the succulents. I live in Southern California and weeds are a problem year round. I was doing fine until I put the knife and my hand into a small pot. I got nicked. After I washed and put a band-aid on the finger cut, I took the pictures here. Photography is more fun than weeding.

I have used the Hori Hori gardening knife since then without any accidents.

Looking at my favorite online shopping place made me realize hori hori is like "tissue". It is not "Kleenex". So, on the internet you will see many makers of hori hori knives.

I am perfectly satisfied with this weeding tool. Much easier than a shovel and I think it has a touch of professionalism that the weed pick does not. The information on Amazon is thorough and there are pictures for every angle.

I also found out on this lens about bonsai that it was developed as a bonsai tool for field collecting of plants for bonsai.

Would you garden with this knife?

I find that the Hori Hori knife has more precision than a weed pick. You get more balance as you dig beside the weed and there is enough blade and it is sharp, so that, you can run under a patch of weeds and easily pull them out at once.

    I'm not much of a gardener, but I heard about these knives and always wondered. I must get my man-servant one so he can tend to the weeds in my backyard . . ha.
