Sometimes, it is fun to be scared

I really only watch horror movies around Halloween.  It is the only time of the year where I feel like I need a good scare.

So, I tried to make a list of some of my favorite Halloween movies.  You can vote on your favorites or add those you think should be on the list.

Also, there are a couple of full-length movies to watch for free - Nosferatu (silent classic) and Night of the Living Dead.

Have Fun!

What Makes a Good Horror Movie?

These 5 items are what it takes in my book to make a good horror movie.

  1. It must be suspenseful.

  2. If there is gore it needs to not be over the top to compensate for a crummy storyline. It needs to make sense in the context of the movie - like the shower scene in Psycho.

  3. The bad guy needs to be easy to root against. Don't be wishy washy with your antagonist.

  4. The story. The story. The story. Make the viewer feel compelled to watch because of the quality of the story.

  5. Unhappy endings are a plus. In most horror movies the bad guy is eventually vanquished. However the trail of dead folks he leaves behind keeps everyone from thinking there is a happy ending.
