All About Horse Breeds
Each and every horse breed has interesting qualities and a look all its own.
Horse Breed is an encyclopedia lens about all the different horse breeds.
There will be links to individual lenses about each different breed as well.
If you love horses, this is the place for you!
(The horse pictured here is Friesian).
Since this lens is going to be so large... it is going to be a work in progress for some time. There are literally hundreds of horse breeds... This is going to be alphabetical, but we will start with the breeds that are the most popular or well known and work our way through)...

American Paint Horse
Yes! I love this breed of horse.
This is one of those totally traditional American horses.
Ridden extensively in rodeo, western competition and show disciplines, and in other (English, etc) riding disciplines, as well.
The reason this horse is named "paint" is because of the distinctive coloring of a white base and one or more other colors.
The American Paint Horse is a breed that has been derived from long breeding between Pintos (or other color on white or spotted breeds), American Quarter Horses, and Thoroughbreds.
The conformation shape of this horse is basically western stock, and they are of average height (14.2 - 16.2 hands).

American Quarter Horse
The American Quarter Horse is probably the most commonly known "cowboy horse" there is.
This horse is stocky and strong, which is perfect for ranch needs and long hard riding.
And the reason this breed is called the "Quarter Horse" is because it runs so fast in a short sprint (a quarter of a mile).
A very versatile horse that can work western or English style riding, but that is ideal for western disciplines particularly.
While the American Quarter Horse is a descendant of many different types of horses, it is now considered a breed on its own, and has very specific characteristics, the most obvious of these being its compact, super strong shape.. but there is another type of quarter horse that is taller and lankier.
There are American Quarter Horses that are bred for practically every type of work, and thus, they have different shaped bodies, but they are all considered American Quarter Horses.
They are an average height horse most often being between 14 and 16 hands tall.

American Saddlebred
The American Saddlebred horse is a breed that has been developed over the years to produce a look and gait that is now being shown as a specific discipline.
The American Saddlebred is a show horse extraordinaire!
This horse has an amazing gait and a proud look.
The American Saddlebred horse can have up to 5 gaits, which are all super flashy, including: walk, trot, canter, slow walk, and rack.
The Saddlebred horse is used in both English and western disciplines, and they are well suited for both riding and driving.
The American Saddlebred horse can be from 14 to 17 hands and can be any color or combination of colors.
They have a sleek body, well defined, and a high tail.

American Warmblood
The American Warmblood is not really a specific breed of horse.
There are so many qualifications that contribute to a horse being known as a warm blood though.
The main one being whether or not the horse is NOT either a completely hot or cold blood.
This is a bit confusing, but the main idea here is that an American Warmblood is a type of horse bred for its sportiness (in various equestrian disciplines) and not for its specific bloodlines.
Some may argue that the American Warmblood isn't a breed, and that is basically true.
But I am including it anyway, for the sake of thoroughness.
The American Warmblood ranges in height anywhere from 15 to 17 hands and can be any color.

Andalusian
The Andalusian horse (also known as PRE or "Pura Raza Espaniola" is true breed of horse.
The Andalusian is considered the classic Spanish horse and goes by several different names including: Iberian Saddle Horse, Iberian War Horse, Jennet, Ginete, Lusitano, Alter Real, Carthusian, Spanish Horse, Portuguese, Peninsular, Castilian, Extremeno, Villanos, Zapata, and Zamaranos
hiddentrails.com
The origin of this amazing horse breed came from way back when Spain was occupied and taken over by the Moors and the Moors (and Arabs) traditional horses (Barb) were bred with the traditional Spanish horses to become this absolutely elegant horse breed.
This horse was an ideal military horse, being both intelligent resilient.
This intelligence also gives them a clear advantage when it comes to learning very difficult dressage moves, which the Andalusian excels at.
They also have beautiful gait and movement, which also makes them ideal at dressage and other similar disciplines.
This horse is average in height, being usually around 15.2 - 16.2 hands.
Their conformation is quite strong.. with thick massive necks, strong lean muscular hind quarters, and generally compact powerful bodies.
They normally have quite long and thick manes and tails and are almost always gray or white (there are some exceptions).
The Andalusian has always been considered a regal horse and kings and royalty across Europe kept them.

- Riding a horse is an art that requires training and plenty of know-how. Men have spent much time in learning how to control these powerful creatures and in training him to do things by responding to certain signals. I enjoyed this lens, immensely!! Angel blessed!
