Excellent review of horse-hair-pottery as well as Mr. Martin's other lovely art pieces. Thank you for sharing. The idea of using horse-hair as a decorative item would never have entered my mind. That's probably why I will never be a great artist. LOL
  • bakerwoman Jan 17, 2011 @ 11:51 pm | delete
The concept of using horse hair in pottery is very fascinating. No two are alike. I learned something new reading this lens. Blessed by a SquidAngel.

Wow..this is some of the most beautiful pottery I have seen. I love pottery for so many reasons and have several pieces from a local artist here in Georgia. The pattern I have is the Southwestern Sun (I believe that is what it is called) it's so beautiful!! Love, Richard's pottery!!
  • thrivingmom Sep 24, 2010 @ 8:26 am | delete
He's a true artist. His pottery is beautiful. I didn't know you could sell pottery on Etsy. Etsy is great for so many things.
  • missbat Sep 22, 2010 @ 3:47 pm | delete

My husband and I have three of these pots. We absolutely LOVE them! We bought them at a festival in Richardson, Texas. I wonder if it's the same guy? Have you ever heard of anyone else that does it? (I don't remember what the people that sold them to us looked like, I'll bet my hubby does. I'll show him your lens!!)
  • pyle_mountain Sep 15, 2010 @ 7:59 am | delete

Interesting pottery and beautiful too. Your first sentence was spot on for me "When you hear the words "horse hair" and "pottery" together, you might wonder how they could possibly go together." I like the new format for our bios, as seeing this intro is what brought me here :)
  • OhMe Sep 11, 2010 @ 11:53 am | delete
I love beautiful pottery and had never seen this technique. Very interesting and very pretty. Rob Gentry is a well known potter here in Pendleton SC and I will have to share this page with him. Richard Martin's Horse Hair Pottery is very unique. Blessed by a Squid Angel. Lensrolling to Pendleton Antiques where one of the Antique Dealers explains about the old Edgefield Pottery.

Richard shows at our Brookings Harbor Farmers and Artisans market and people are fascinated with his pottery. The beads are fun and jewelers are buying them to incorporate into their own creations.

Well I certainly had never heard of horse hair pottery before, but this is truly beautiful! I'm sure I'd want to buy lots if I encountered his booth. The agateware looks beautiful too - I guess I should make a trip to the Etsy store.
